Israel admits, then deletes, responsibility for Gaza killings By Ali Abunimah

31 March 2018 — Electronic Intifada

The Israeli army posted a statement on Twitter on Saturday apparently accepting full responsibility for the killings a day earlier of 15 Palestinians as thousands took part in the Great March of Return in Gaza.

The army then quickly deleted the admission – as more evidence of war crimes by its soldiers came to light – but not before a copy was made by the human rights group B’Tselem.

The now-deleted tweet from the official @IDFSpokesperson account stated: “Yesterday we saw 30,000 people; we arrived prepared and with precise reinforcements. Nothing was carried out uncontrolled; everything was accurate and measured, and we know where every bullet landed.”

The Deleted IDF Tweet

Hillary Clinton Ordered Diplomats To Suppress 'Novichok' Discussions

31 March 2018 — Moon of Alabama

While the last act of the ‘Novichok’ drama, the seasonally appropriate resurrection of the Skripals, proceeds, some additional details of the history of ‘Novichok’ nerve agents come to light.

Details on ‘Novichok’ nerve agents were published in a 2007 book by Vil Mirzayanaov, a Soviet scientist offered asylum in the United States.

After the publication the U.S. and the UK actively suppressed international discussions about the book and the ‘Novichok’ chemical weapon agents. Documents from the U.S. State Department published by Wikileaks show that then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton directed her diplomats to not talk about Novichok and to play down the matter should it arise in chemical weapon control talks. Yulia Skripal "improving rapidly": The unravelling of the Russian Novichok narrative By Chris Marsden

31 March 2018 — WSWS

When placed in the context of the global anti-Russia propaganda campaign spearheaded by Britain’s Conservative government, Thursday saw the greatest Easter miracle since Christ rose from the dead.

For weeks, the world’s media has cited uncritically government claims that double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were poisoned March 4 with a “weapons grade” nerve agent, known as a Novichok.

Is Facebook Listening through Your Smartphone Microphone? Whistleblower Says Yes

By True Publica, March 29 2018

A couple of years ago I had a pair of sunglasses stolen from my car when I forgot to take them with me when the car was being serviced. I complained to the garage and indignantly reported this important event to my wife. Spookily, the following day I started receiving ads in my Facebook feed for where I could buy exactly the same pair of sunglasses. Continue reading

France’s Bling-Bling Sarkozy Haunted by Ghost of Gaddafi By Finian Cunningham

26 March 2018 — Strategic Culture Foundation

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is now under formal investigation over corruption charges that could see him end up behind bars for five years if found guilty. After 48 hours of police questioning last week, Sarkozy said the scandal was “making his life hell”. Critics would say it’s a fate deserved.

Israeli town freezes new housing project to stop entry of Palestinian citizens. But the mayor insists he’s not racist

How would you describe a white town in a southern state in the United States that froze the tender for plots of land in a new neighbourhood because it risked allowing blacks to move in? As racist?

Evidence of Violent Extremism of Little Interest When Killer Is White By FAIR

29 March 2018 — FAIR

Independent: Austin Bomber Mark Anthony Conditt Was Part of Christian Survivalist Group That Discussed 'Dangerous' Chemicals

If a Muslim bomber had received religious-based weapons training (Independent, 3/22/18), that would likely be the lead fact in every report on them.

Remember that Muslim mass murderer who belonged to an Islamic home-madrassa called INTIFADA, where knife-wielding Shari’a survivalists studied the Qur’an, guns and dangerous chemicals? And how the liberal media fawningly portrayed him as a misunderstood and under-loved young man otherwise full of promise?

You don’t, because that never happened. But have you heard about of the Christian Texas child-killer from an all-white sect who slaughtered the president of a homeowners’ association and a 17-year-old aspiring neurosurgeon, both on their own doorsteps and in front of their families? Both victims were African-Americans. This same murderer was a suicide bomber who blew himself up before police could arrest him and take him for a hamburger (as they did with Dylann Roof, the young white man who killed nine African-Americans at their church).

2018 Gun Debate A Narrow Opportunity For Democrats, A Wide One For the Left

– Bruce A. Dixon , BAR managing editor
Democrats want a gun debate on narrow and limited ground avoiding the settler-slavemaster-colonial origin of the 2nd Amendment, and the ubiquity of armed white patriarchal US violence across the planet. Will we let them have it?

The truth about Cambridge Analytica-SCL: Psy-ops by UK-US deep state actors By Julie Hyland

26 March 2018 — WSWS

The scandal surrounding Facebook’s relationship with Cambridge Analytica, the election data company previously associated with former Trump campaign Chairman Steve Bannon, dominates the media in the US and Britain.

The serious privacy concerns involved in the harvesting of the personal information of some 50 million Facebook users were underscored by Britain’s Channel 4 News. An undercover investigation filmed Cambridge Analytica CEO Alexander Nix boasting of dirty tricks operations to ensnare politicians and subvert elections.

Publish it Not! How Israel controls the media

Given all the palaver around Corbyn’s alleged anti-semitic thoughts, I thought it well worth republishing Jonathan Cook’s excellent essay on the subject of Israel’s propaganda war, ‘Publish It Not!‘ (PDF).

Media Lens: The Universe Remains Unhurt

28 March 2018 — Media Lens

And then there was light.

But there must already have been space.

God would be hard-pressed to reach the light switch without space.

The light switch would be hard-pressed to exist.

In reality, only two possible impossibilities are conceivable among the many known unknowns:

– the universe flashed into existence from nothing, without a cause – impossible

  • the universe has always existed, eternally, without a beginning – impossible.

The fact that both seem to be ‘nonsense’ suggests that our ‘common sense’ view must itself be nonsense.

The great British drug rip-off By Morten Thaysen

5 November 2017 — OurNHS

Drug prices are soaring, crippling our NHS. And Big Pharma’s defence (‘research is expensive’) omits one crucial fact…

As he became ‘the most hated man on the Internet’ last year, ‘pharma-bro’ Martin Shkreli repeatedly claimed that by hiking the price of HIV drugs he wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. Squeezing health services and patients for every last penny is just how the pharmaceutical industry works. And that’s perhaps the only thing he was right about.

While multinational drug companies have turned themselves into one of the most profitable industries in the world, they have peddled the lie that they’re charging eye-watering prices for their life-saving products because it costs a fortune to research and develop them. What they didn’t tell us is that much of that research is publicly funded in the first place.

Three Years of Saudi Bombings: Let’s Call An End to War Profiteering in Yemen

By Catherine Shakdam, March 26, 2018

Three years of an implacable and murderous military campaign that witnessed the death of over 15,000 people – of which mostly unarmed civilians; saw the destruction of civilian infrastructures to the point where Yemen’s health and sanitation systems have all but collapsed; and architected a humanitarian blockade that led to a grand famine and the spread of diseases.
