Everyone needs to see this new analysis about NHS privatisation…

Research by the Centre for Health and the Public Interest (CHPI) has found that out of £12 billion spent by the NHS on outsourcing to private companies over 2 years, £1.6 billion has leaked out in profits.

This money could have funded an additional 19,428 nurses in our NHS. Instead, it’s gone to making private companies and their shareholders richer.

How can these companies get away with it? Because the government doesn’t put any limits on how much profit they can make. In fact, 131 companies with NHS contracts are making a profit in excess of 20%.

At a time when our NHS is on its knees, and millions of patients cannot access the care we need, this profiteering is grotesque.

We support CHPI and allies in calling for:

• A cap on the profits of companies providing NHS services
• A cap on the amount of debt companies providing NHS services can take on
• Full transparency about where money going to private companies ends up
• A requirement for all companies providing NHS services to be tax registered in the UK

We also want to highlight the links between levels of NHS privatisation and impact on patient care at a local level.
