The Minsk Agreements: A Tactical Pause, Not a Path to Peace
The former German chancellor Angela Merkel sparked controversy with her candid reflections on the Minsk agreements. These accords were ostensibly negotiated to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine after Russia’s accession of Crimea in 2014 as a result of a referendum by its residents and the subsequent outbreak of hostilities by the Ukrainian army and the Azov Battalion against ethnic Russians in the Donbas and Donetsk regions.

If we review the hard powers resisting Israel’s Gazan turkey shoot, the first thing we notice is that almost all of these have been armed by Iran or its proxies, with the major exception being the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and its derivatives, which were headquartered in the former Syrian Arab Republic, whose new rulers are literally spreading their hind cheeks to accommodate Israel’s expansionist designs. Reports reveal alarming practices by the Israeli military in Gaza, where civilians face risks from repeated attacks on buildings labeled by “Israel” as Resistance sites, even after those buildings are no longer in use. Haaretz correspondent Yaniv Kubovich highlights disturbing policies, including the targeting of civilians entering such structures and a military culture of competition over casualties. These actions have devastating consequences, with attacks on designated humanitarian zones like Mawasi resulting in numerous civilian deaths.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro described Monday the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, as “a true hero of medical ethics and service to others and his people.”
In a post on X, Petro emphasized that the Israeli occupation’s military’s imprisoning of Abu Safiya only exposes “the cowardice of the disgraceful regime that detains him.”
