1. Announcing The Alliance of Radical Booksellers and the Bread and Roses Award for Radical Publishing

Thursday 13th October saw radical booksellers from across the country meet up in Liverpool to launch two new initiatives: the Alliance of Radical Booksellers (ARB) and a book prize for non-fiction awarded by the ARB, the Bread and Roses Award for Radical Publishing. There’ll be lots more information about both of these projects coming out soon, but for starters have a look at Ross Bradshaw of Five Leaves Publications report from the launch event here:

2. Christmas book-shopping online

A friendly reminder that Christmas is closer than you think, and you can avoid the mayhem by buying your books online at Housmans:

Be sure to check the availability of a book before placing your order.

3. Luddites’ 200th Anniversary/Housmans Peace Diary launch

Inspired by the 200th anniversary of the actions taken by the Luddites , the Peace Diary this year contains a special feature on current technology capable of being ‘hurtful to Commonality’ (as the Luddites put it), such as GM food, nuclear power, drones, reproductive technology, nanotechnology and ‘geo-engineering’.

On 4th November there will be a special event both celebrating the anniversary, and acting as a Peace Diary launch event, to include film screenings and talks. Please note: this event is NOT at Housmans, but at LARC – please follow the link for more information:
