«Dragon Family Gold» and US Federal Reserve System (I)

08.12.2012 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

The attacks against world leading financial institutions have become more frequent recently, for instance the legal claim lodged by the anonymous group code-named the Dragon Family. Some Neil Francis Keenan is acting as its representative… Keenan claims that before WWII the U.S. the Federal Reserve System (12 Federal Reserve Banks, to be more exact) had received enormous amounts of money – delivered in gold and other precious metals – from a group of several wealthy Chinese citizens to be kept for a long time. In return they got certificates testifying the money was placed for the benefit to be redeemed by Federal Reserve System on the expiration of specified term…

US on the Way of Asia-Pacific Rebalancing

07.12.2012 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

In the XXI century the Asia-Pacific will not only be the world’s largest producer of goods and services, but also the world’s largest consumer of them. Obama has called himself «America’s first Pacific president»… The US military buildup in the Asia Pacific is clearly emerging along with strengthening alliances and expanding military exercises. The United States has 320,000 troops in the Pacific region and the Department of Defense has promised there will be no reductions as troops are drawn down in Afghanistan and other parts of the world…

US Intelligence Goes Through Drastic Reshuffle

06.12.2012 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

The US intelligence is following suit on the «Pivot to Asia» creating a new clandestine intelligence service set to emphasize the region, China in particular. On December 2, 2012 the Washington Post reported the US intelligence community is to go through a major reshuffle detailed in the article DIA Sending Hundreds More Spies Overseas (1), echoed by other media outlets. The Pentagon will send hundreds of additional operatives overseas as part of an ambitious plan to assemble an espionage network that rivals the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in size. According to the newspaper’s report, the five-year project is aimed at transforming the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)…

Palestine Issue and Global Correlation of Forces

06.12.2012 | 00:00 | Natalia MEDEN

The UN General Assembly’s vote on the status of Palestine is a good example of the international correlation of forces. One should not miss the main thing: the observer state status is a step on the way of full-fledged membership. Since 1946 Switzerland enjoyed the same status as Palestine has now. It became a UN member in 2002. Initially Austria, Finland and Japan were UN observer states…

Poetic justice in Qatari tyrant’s fairytale of supporting regional democracy and free speech

05.12.2012 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

Once upon a time there was a very rich emirate whose royal ruler wanted to dazzle the world with his magnanimity and appreciation of free speech. It was a bold move because, in this particular geographical desert enclave, the oil-rich kingdoms were typically ruled with an iron rod by absolute unelected monarchs… The fairytale appeared to become reality in the year 2006 when the Persian Gulf emirate of Qatar set up the English-language news broadcaster, Al Jazeera. Qatar’s ruler Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, one of the richest men in the world owing to his tiny country’s immense natural gas wealth, put up the money to found the corporation…

What the devil is fracking all about?

04.12.2012 | 12:30 | Rafe MAIR

I learned that it was a way to capture oil and gas unobtainable by ordinary means that is caught between layers of shale, often as deep as a mile… In less than a year «fracking» has turned the energy field around such that the US, long dependent on the Middle East and Canada for its supplies gas, is on the brink, perhaps as early as 2016, of self sufficiency and its impact on the Middle East, Russia and Asia, will be enormous given that gas prices will plummet – as they already have in North America…

Post-Imperium Pax Americana: a desperate Israel scours for allies

04.12.2012 | 12:16 | Wayne MADSEN

The recent lopsided vote in the UN General Assembly to admit Palestine as a non-member state observer is a sure indication that in a post-imperial American world, Israel’s ability to secure allies is becoming more difficult… Israel tried to prevent a total rout, where only it and the United States would have voted “no” on Palestine, by calling on some foreign leaders who have been carefully cultivated by Israel and Jewish lobbies. In seven cases, these friends of Israel ensured that their nations voted to reject the Palestinian status upgrade resolution. In others, the Israeli allies could only muster an abstention on the resolution…

Millionaire Tompkins is the operator of a U.S. Empire in Patagonia

04.12.2012 | 00:00 | Nil NIKANDROV

In the late 1980’s millionaire Douglas Tompkins from the U.S. made a reconnaissance trip to Siberia. He did not deny that he was looking to select «suitable area» to create a giant-scale natural park with a view to the implementation of a «deep ecology» project. Tompkins turned down the Siberian option after coming up against specific complications from the Russians: «The situation is not yet ripe». After visits to Alaska and Canada, he turned his gaze on Chile, with its uninhabited areas in the south, and Argentina, where the economic crisis facilitated the buying up of agricultural land

The new game in the «Syrian opposition»: the redistribution of roles and functions

03.12.2012 | 00:00 | Olga CHETVERIKOVA

After a failed attempt to start a comprehensive civil war in Syria, the West began to sculpt the image of the «Syrian opposition» in a new way. So far the «alternative» to the government of Bashar al-Assad, sitting in Turkey, is the Syrian National Council (SNC, also called the «Istanbul council»); it is funded by Qatar and is under the full control of French military intelligence, the General Directorate of External Security (DGSE). Most of the members of the Istanbul council are representatives of the «Muslim Brotherhood». The main fighting force is still directed by Turkey and it equips the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is recruited from Syrian army deserters and criminals, «al-Qaeda» insurgents, Salafists and jihadists…

Security Dilemma in the Middle East

03.12.2012 | 00:00 | Aurobinda MAHAPATRA

The symbolic victory of Palestine at the UN was met by the Israeli announcement next day on 30 November of building another settlement consisting of 3,000 new housing units in the West Bank. Despite protests from the Palestinians, the Israeli government is determined to go ahead with the project. The project will likely create obstacles against communication between northern and southern parts of the West Bank. The point is: how does this symbolic victory will help Palestine in face of its apparent weakness before the might of the Israeli armed forces…

About Somali pirates and not only about them

02.12.2012 | 00:00 | Alexander MEZYAEV

Marine transportation accounts for 90% of all international trade transportation in the world, so therefore piracy has become a threat to world trade. In the first 10 months of 2012, 291 attacks have been made on ships… Piracy off the coast of Somalia occurs for a range of reasons, but the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council is not eliminating any of them… As it turns out, even in the UN Security Council there are patrons of pirates: the representative of the Russian Federation, Vitaly Churkin, said bluntly that the proposal to impose sanctions on the pirate leaders «does not find support from some members of the Security Council»…
