1. Student 20% Discount Night! Wednesday 23rd November

As a way to welcome new students to Housmans, and give people a chance for a bit of discount shopping ahead of Christmas, we’ll be having a Student 20% Discount Night on Wednesday 23rd November, from 6.30-8.30pm. There’ll be a free bottle of beer and a free tote bag per customer too (while stocks last)! Cheers!

2. Left Book Club

Housmans are a partner organisation to the recently re-started Left Book Club. It’s a great project with huge potential, but that potential needs people getting involved and making it into their own image.

There’s currently a crowdfunder with some really great gifts for donators, but as important as that is, the best way to be involved is to become a member and join or start a local group.

Please have a look at the crowdfunder page: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/leftbookclub which includes a really fun video featuring some Housmans customers talking about their love of books, and also Noam Chomsky giving two thumbs up to the project.

And also of course do check out the Left Book Club’s website, which has info on the books being published, book groups, how to become a member, and so on:  http://www.leftbookclub.com

3. White Poppies

As ever Housmans is well stocked with White Poppies. White Poppies are worn in the run-up to Remembrance Day every year by thousands of people in the UK and beyond and have been worn in this way for over eighty years. They are distributed by the Peace Pledge Union (PPU).

There are three elements to the meaning of White Poppies: they represent remembrance for all victims of war, a commitment to peace and a challenge to attempts to glamourise or celebrate war.

4. Second-hand Book Donations // Polish titles, and more

A big thank you to everyone who has been donating books to Housmans. They are an essential part of keeping the shop afloat. Recent donations include some really interesting titles from authors Owen Hatherley and Agata Pyzik. Agata’s donation includes some brand new Polish language socio-cultural titles, all currently selling for £1 in our bargain basement!

We are always hungry for more donations, and they needn’t be political books. We also endeavour to collect the books no matter where they are in the country. So do please keep us in mind if you are having a little clear out. Please email nik@housmans.com for more info, or give the shop a call on 020 7837 4473.

5. Housmans Gift Vouchers

A little reminder that Housmans now sell custom gift vouchers. They come in a nice coloured envelope and can make an excellent gift for all book lovers! Available in store, or buy online on the front page of our website, here: http://www.housmans.com/

6.  Housmans Peace Diary 2017

Housmans Peace Diary – in its 64th year – is now available As ever the week-to-an-opening diary includes a fresh choice of quotations, and a new selection of daily anniversaries for celebration, thought, or protest. It also includes an updated directory of national and international peace organisations worldwide.

The special feature in the 2017 Peace Diary looks at how activists have survived surveillance and infiltration by security services and corporations – with tales of some classic examples, old and new.
