US Secretary Hegseth’s speech was not an offering of peace and stability to Asia, it is the holding of its hostage in exchange for subordination to Washington and Wall Street and the continued primacy of Western interests over Asia decades into the future.
Only time will tell if Asia is prepared to work with China to protect and preserve the hard-fought peace, stability, and prosperity built up together in the decades the US was “distracted” burning much of the rest of Eurasia to the ground, or whether short-sighted, self-serving leaders maneuvered into power through US political interference in the region will succeed in spreading Washington’s death and destruction consuming Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East to Asia as well.“

On the 12 of June, the world’s nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), issued a damning statement that accused Iran of being in breach of its commitments to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The Government Media Office in Gaza has strongly condemned what it described as “a heinous crime” after discovering Oxycodone pills hidden inside flour bags distributed through US-Israeli aid centers, widely referred to as “death traps.”
Authorities have documented multiple citizen testimonies confirming the presence of these narcotics, sounding the alarm that “some may have been deliberately ground into or dissolved within the flour itself.”
The office accused “Israel” of using narcotics as a “soft weapon” in a systematic effort to destroy Palestinian society, calling it “a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.”
It urged Palestinians to avoid these centers, inspect all aid products carefully, and report suspicious findings. It also called on international bodies, including the UN Human Rights Council and the International Criminal Court (ICC), to intervene, shut down the centers, and ensure aid is delivered solely through official UN and international institutions.

Private contractors working with Israeli occupation forces in Gaza are being paid 5,000 shekels (around $1,500) for every Palestinian home they demolish, according to testimonies from Israeli soldiers reported by Haaretz.
An occupation fighter described the situation: “From their perspective, any moment where they’re not demolishing houses is a loss of money, and the forces have to secure their work.”
The demolitions often take place near aid routes and residential areas, leading to deadly confrontations with civilians.
“For a contractor to make another 5,000 shekels and take down a house, it’s deemed acceptable to kill people who are only looking for food,” one soldier confessed.
This demolition-for-profit system is another facet of “Israel’s” genocidal war on Gaza.

I’m writing to you today with an urgent request for support for a crucial campaign that needs our collective help to succeed.
A vital legal effort has launched a CrowdJustice page to fund its important work. This policy was imposed following pressure from UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI).

In the early hours of June 13, 2025, Israel decisively expanded its war on the Axis of Resistance by targeting Iran directly. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the strikes as a blow delivered directly to “the heart” of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and, consequentially, to the regional resistance project. Justifying this aggression was an IAEA report alleging Iran’s accumulation of 408.6 kg of uranium enriched to 60%, a claim promptly mobilized as diplomatic cover for escalation and aggression.

Dear friends,
Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
The number in the graph above, based on data from the International Monetary Fund, is not an exaggeration. Despite the growing technological and industrial capacity of countries in the Global South, countries and corporations in the Global North continue to own intellectual property patents on key products, locking the South into indefinite patent payment regimes. These include patent payments for pharmaceuticals, digital technologies (such as licensing fees for software and telecommunications infrastructure), and agricultural goods (such as genetically modified seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and equipment). Scientific and technological advances have indeed accelerated in the Global South, with several countries – particularly in Asia – developing sophisticated high-speed rail, green technologies, and telecommunications infrastructure. Yet even in these sectors, most countries continue to pay large rents to Global North firms that own patents on key components.

As Iran secures missile dominance over the skies of Israel. As a third US aircraft carrier group approaches. As Trump calls for Iran’s unconditional surrender. As Trump calls for the evacuation of Tehran. As chatter in Tel Aviv and Washington intensifies about something big about to occur on the 20th, Iran is becoming the focus and the arena for a clash between the major powers.
There are tariffs and there are tariffs. Tariffs applied to a youthful capitalism are to be sharply distinguished from those applied to a geriatric capitalism. The former is designed to catch up, the latter to stop falling further behind. A rising capitalism in an expanding world market can use tariffs as a means of shielding its economy from international competition in order to nurture its own industries until they can stand on their own feet. This is normally associated with state support and the centralisation of capital assisted by the state. On this basis, as in China, it can lead to the emergence of a new independent international competitor though this is a rare event, made even rarer as capitalism develops over time.
