1. Peace Diary 2011 – coming very soon!

Every year we publish the world renowned Housmans Peace Diary. As ever, this 58th edition includes a World Peace Directory listing almost 2,000 national and international peace, environment and human rights organisations in 150 countries.

2. ‘Afrocolombians for the land and against militarism’ with Jota Ramos
Saturday 2nd October, 7pm

Jota Ramos will present a documentary and talk about the situation and struggle of Afrodescendants in Colombia, which arose in the face of vulnerability to losing the land: one of the few things that keep the community united and free. This event is presented by War Resisters’ International, and will be in both Spanish and English

3. ‘The struggle for West Papuan’s indigenous rights’ with Rosa Moiwend
Wednesday 6th October, 7pm

A presentation on the latest threat to indigenous Papuan’s rights, and how Papuans are resisting the attempts to deny them access to their land. With Rosa Moiwend from the Malind tribe.

4. Mouvement Communiste present: ‘Workers’ Struggle in China’
Saturday 9th October, 5pm

A discussion on the implications of the growing confidence amongst Chinese workers to struggle for better conditions, against the wishes of the Communist Party and their attempts to control trade unionism. Hosted by the French group,
Mouvement Communiste.

5. ‘Hollywood Cinema and American Supremacy’ with Matthew Alford
Wednesday 13th October, 7pm

Hollywood is often characterised as a stronghold of left-liberal ideals. In ‘Reel Power’ Matthew Alford shows that it is in fact deeply complicit in serving the interests of the most regressive US corporate and political forces.

6. Housmans Peace Diary Launch Party
Saturday16th October, 5pm

To celebrate the launch there will be a second-hand peace book sale, guests speakers from Peace News and the Peace Pledge Union, and the odd glass of wine or two!

7. ‘Radical Ideas for Revolutionary Action’ with Michael Albert
Friday 22nd October, 7pm

In a rare visit from the USA, author and activist Michael Albert will be addressing the key problems facing the revolutionary left today, and suggesting solutions for more effective organising.

8. ‘Religion – Cause of war or tool for peace?’ with Symon Hill
Wednesday 27th October, 7pm

Symon Hill, author of ‘The No-Nonsense Guide to Religion’, discusses the contradictory role of religion’s links with both war and peace. With religion so often associated with violence, he asks if it has a role to play in achieving a nonviolent world.
