Growing Neo-Colonial Instability Points To The Looming Civilizational Collapse Of Most Of The Globe

14 August 2021 — See You in 2020

I say “most of the globe” because the 21st century civilizational collapse we’re in the early stages of isn’t going to be distributed evenly. Of course, in the long term the unraveling may catch up to even the most momentarily stable areas; as futurist William Gibson has said, “The future is already here — it’s just not evenly distributed.” Which can apply to the breakdown of peace and order as much as it can apply to the expansion of life-improving technologies.

The Houses of Dead and Crooked Souls

13 August 2021 — Origin: Edward Curtin

“A house constitutes a body of images that give mankind proofs or illusions of stability.”      – Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

There is a vast and growing gulf between the world’s rich and poor.  An obscene gulf. If we can read houses, they will confirm this.  They offer a visible lesson in social class.

Houses stand before us like books on a shelf waiting to be read, and when the books are missing, as they are for a vast and growing multitude of the homeless exiled wandering ones and those imprisoned, their absence serves to indict the mansion-dwelling wealthy and to a lesser extent those whose homes serve to shield them from the truth of the ill-begotten gains of the wealthy elites who create the world’s suffering through their avarice, lies, and war making.

Code Red: How can we prevent climate catastrophe?

IPCC report proves our rulers have failed: it’s time for radical change

by Martin Empson

The release of the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis) presented us with a grim coincidence. The report was published as parts of the world were literally on fire. Wildfires in Turkey and Greece forced the evacuation of thousands of people, with dozens of phone videos capturing the same apocalyptic drama. The fires made it into Western news because they were happening in tourist hotspots. The disaster was made worse by the European Union’s neoliberal pro-market policies that have cut firefighting services in the name of austerity.

Creative Associates International (CAI): It’s Not Exactly the CIA, But Close Enough

13 August 2021 — MintPress News

CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND — You have likely not heard of them, but Creative Associates International (CAI) is one of the largest and most powerful non-governmental organizations operating anywhere in the world. A pillar of soft U.S. power, the group has been an architect in privatizing the Iraqi education system, designed messenger apps meant to overthrow the government of Cuba, served as a front group for the infamous Blackwater mercenary force (now rebranded as Academi), and liaised with Contra death squads in Nicaragua. As such, it has functioned as “both as an instrument of foreign policy and as a manifestation of a broader imperial project,” in the words of Professor Kenneth Saltman of the University of Illinois, Chicago.
