Max Blumenthal and Aaron Mate discuss Israel’s unprovoked assault on Iran, in which it assassinated numerous high level military commanders and nuclear scientists, while killing scores of civilians, and cover Iran’s punishing retaliation as it enacts True Promise III. Where is the war going? And should Iran finally move toward a nuclear weapon?
In the last week, two developments have happened that show the U.S. government’s campaign of repression is unfolding faster than many of us might have believed. One, the PSL has been asked to provide records of its communications under threat of criminal charges, with the Senate implicitly accusing the org of coordinating terrorist activities. Two, the Democratic Party-aligned streamer Hasan Piker has come under an investigation of a similar nature, confirming that the protections he believed he had aren’t as real as they appeared. Last month when he was detained by the border patrol, Hasan willingly talked to the police, evidently thinking this wouldn’t put him in danger. But now he and PSL are getting targeted in these ways, even though both of them are controlled opposition.
The Grayzone’s Max Blumenthal interviews Dr. Foad Izadi, professor of world politics at the University of Tehran, amid Israeli airstrikes on Iran which assassinated nuclear scientists and military officials while killing many civilians.
As one of his country’s most prolific political commentators, Izadi critiques the Iranian president’s diplomacy with the US, Trump’s perfidious actions, and the mood of Iranian society.
Seyed Mohammad Marandi is a professor at Tehran University and a former advisor to Iran’s Nuclear Negotiation Team. Prof. Marandi outlines the damage inflicted on Iran, the deception of the US at the negotiation table, and why the IAEA will not be trusted again. Regarding the extent of destruction by Israel, Prof. Marandi argues that there is much deception.
-Iran has retaliated against US-backed Israeli strikes on Iran;
-Waves of 100s of missiles have struck targets across Israel;
-Iran is calibrating its retaliation to raise the cost of continued Israeli aggression;
-Iran seeks to avoid wider war and will only escalate if it is imposed upon it;
-Iranian leaders are taking a number of factors into consideration regarding policies before and after US-Israeli aggression and are focused primarily on a strategy of survival, not revenge
On June 13th, the Zionist entity carried out a wide-ranging, unprovoked, criminal military strike on Iran, purportedly to dent the Islamic Republic’s quest to develop nuclear weapons. Tehran has consistently repudiated any suggestion it harbours such ambitions. A November 2007 US National Intelligence Estimate concurred, expressing “high confidence that in fall 2003,” the country “halted” any and all research in the field. This assessment remained unchanged for several years subsequently, and was reportedly shared by Mossad.
I spoke to the PalPulse podcast for a wide-ranging discussion about how anti-Semitism was weaponised against Jeremy Corbyn, the police raid on my home, the history of Palestinian resistance and whole lot more.
President Trump is making it clear that the U.S. is fully involved in the unprecedented attacked carried out by Israel, which included strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and ballistic missile factories, and the assassinations of multiple top Iranian military commanders.
Brian Berletic, a geopolitical analyst and Host of The New Atlas, noted that this is part of the U.S. war on the pillars of multi-polarity, and it is using Israel as a proxy to target Iran because of both its power in the Middle East and its proximity to Russia and China.

What Israeli authorities denied for years is now on the desks of Iranian analysts: top-secret data on Tel Aviv’s nuclear program, obtained through a brilliant intelligence operation.
And today is freewrite Friday. I’m just going to write what I like, no edits or polishing, and hit send.
So firstly, let me say that Israel’s unprovoked attack on Iran last night did not come as a surprise to me or many spectacle readers because we had already observed indicators that the attack was building up coming days ago.
“The real issue for the United States is Iran’s support for the Palestinian people.” In an interview for Al Mayadeen, Mohammad Marandi, Tehran University Professor and former advisor to the nuclear negotiating team in 2015, asserted that the real reason behind US hostility toward Iran isn’t Iran’s nuclear program or missile capabilities, but rather Tehran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. “Have no doubt,” he emphasized, “the nuclear program is just an excuse.” He argued that Washington seeks to force Iran into regional compromises, demanding it become a passive actor like Turkey or Qatar, where symbolic gestures replace real resistance to “Israel’s hegemony or domination.” Marandi clarified that “Iran is not going to trade its support for the Palestinian people” for sanctions relief.

Israel attacked Iran early on Friday morning, targeting the capital Tehran and other parts of the country with multiple airstrikes in a dramatic escalation of its regional war. Explosions were reported in cities home to major sites connected to the Iranian nuclear program. Initial reports indicate that Israel may have targeted the homes of Iranian political and military officials, as well as figures related to its nuclear program. Iranian state TV reported that a number of senior officials were killed, including the commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami.
