Girl Scout cookies contain lead, arsenic, cadmium, aluminium and mercury at levels that often exceed regulators’ recommended limits, as well as concerning amounts of glyphosate herbicide, a new class action lawsuit alleges. The suit bases its allegations on a study commissioned by the GMOScience and Moms Across America non-profits that tested 25 cookies gathered from across three states, and found all contained at least four out of five of the heavy metals. Lead was found in all but one cookie, and all samples contained glyphosate. The lawsuit seeks $5m in damages and asks a New York state court to order Girl Scouts of America to affix a warning to the cookies. The heavy metals are especially dangerous for young children, and can cause brain damage and developmental issues. Glyphosate exposure is linked to liver inflammation, among other issues. The Trump administration is posing as if its primary motivation is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons as part of a wider narrative regarding US leadership in maintaining peace and stability worldwide. In reality, this most recent escalation is part of a wider US policy spanning multiple presidential administrations aimed at dismantling Iran’s network of allies across the region, isolating Iran, before pursuing regime change operations against Iran itself.”
Donald Trump’s top economic advisor Stephen Miran revealed that Washington’s strategy is to use tariffs to force countries to pay the USA tribute to maintain its global financial and military empire.
Eighty years ago, on 11 April 1945, units of General George S. Patton’s 4th Armoured Division of the US armed forces drove toward the city of Weimar, Germany, where the Buchenwald concentration camp was located. Patton’s troops eventually took control of the camp, but soldiers’ statements, which were collected later by historians, suggest that the US tanks were not what liberated Buchenwald: the camp had already been seized by the organisation and courage of the prisoners who took advantage of the flight of German soldiers in the face of the Allied advance.
Consultation on labelling GM seeds – updated guidance from GM Freeze
Last week we contacted our members and supporters to urge them to respond to a DEFRA consultation on whether new GM seeds (dubbed ‘precision bred’ by the Westminster government) will be labelled. We pointed out that, although the consultation questions are focussed on business impacts the outcome will affect everyone who buys seeds. It will also impact whoever they grow food for – be they customers, communities, friends or families.
“Would we have protested if the resistance had blown up a school with German children?” – is the Dutch logic of supporting Israeli war crimes
Anton Mussert (1894-1946), founder and leader of the National Socialist Movement in the Netherlands (NSB), who collaborated with Nazi Germany during the occupation.
In the pallid bureaucratic language that cloaks moral cowardice, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has made his nation’s position clear: there is “no red line” that Israel can cross that would cause the Netherlands to alter its steadfast support. No war crime too heinous, no massacre too bloody, no humanitarian catastrophe too devastating will shake the Dutch government’s resolve to stand with the executioners rather than the executed.

Any “movement” that leads protest back to the Democratic Party is, by definition, dangerous. Criticism of Donald Trump cannot be a defining feature of change.
Trump is unleashing global chaos that threatens full-scale war as US & Iran reach a breaking point and tariffs bring Russia, China and Iran into a historic juncture in their global leadership. Former CIA analysts Larry Johnson and Ray McGovern join the show with geopolitical expert Glenn Diesen to break down the massive global shift shaking the US to its core on the way to WW3.
Nearly 300 people signed up to join us for the “This is Repression: the State of Protest in 2024” report launch!
A video replay of our launch event is now available. We were joined by an expert panel of activists, organisers and campaigners from Palestine Action, Reclaim the Power, and the Climate Action Support Pathway to discuss their recent experiences on the frontlines of protest policing.
“This is Repression” is the first annual State of Protest report from Netpol. You can read the exec summary and key findings at Netpol.org/StateOfProtest.
We’ll be surveying groups and campaigners annually to map the current trends and tactics used by police to target and disrupt social movements, making sure we can learn from and better resist oppressive policing.
If you find this type of action-focused research valuable, please consider making a donation to Netpol to help sustain this work. You can make a one-off or monthly donation at Netpol.org/Donate.
Today, President Donald Trump implemented his new range of tariffs on US imports called reciprocal tariffs. In addition to those announced last Wednesday (Liberation day), Trump included an extra levy on Chinese imports in retaliation to China’s decision to impose a 34% tariff on US imports, which in turn was a retaliation against Trump’s 34% hike on Chinese imports proposed last week. So US imports from China now have a 104% tariff rate, in effect a doubling. And as I write, China has announced a further 50% hike on US imports, taking Chinese tariffs on US exports to 84% in this tit-for-tat retaliation war.
Meta’s recruitment of vast numbers of former Israeli soldiers raises serious questions about the tech giant’s commitment to free speech – and provides a peek into a biased content moderation process that’s been heavily censoring pro-Palestinian accounts amid the Israeli siege of Gaza.
Under public pressure, an Israeli network censored a report which would have exposed a key face of Israel’s October 7 PR campaign as a fabulist. Rami Davidian claimed to have rescued over 750 young Israelis and witnessed hideous scenes of rape by Hamas. His bogus testimonies were cited by the UN and filmmaker Sheryl Sandberg.
Ever since March 15th, Washington has barraged Sanaa from the sky, killing and injuring countless innocent civilians while destroying vital infrastructure. For example, on April 2nd, US jets targeted a reservoir in western Yemen, cutting off access to water for over 50,000 people. Three days later, Donald Trump gloatingly posted a horrific video on social media of a tribal gathering being incinerated in a US airstrike – the President falsely claimed the individuals were in fact “Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack.” (more…)
I spoke with Andrei Martyanov, a military expert and author, about the developments on the battlefield in Ukraine. Martyanov argues that Russia has won the war of attrition, and the situation goes from bad to worse for Ukraine and NATO. Martyanov discusses how the technological and tactical landscape has changed over the past three years. Martyanov is not optimistic about the possibility of a diplomatic settlement and believes Ukraine and NATO are heading toward a military defeat. Russia may consequently annex more territories, including Odessa. As the frontlines continue to collapse, the causality levels intensify. From a humanitarian and strategic (post-war stability) perspective, it should be a priority to find a political settlement.
As I have written before, the German Nazi party was both supported and actively aided by sections of the German oligarchy (a coalition of the bourgeoisie and the Junker large land owners created by Bismarck) during its early years to be maintained as a possible alternative to social democracy. With the 1929 Great Depression and the resultant threat to ruling class legitimacy, much greater support was given to the Nazi Party. When that failed to get the Nazi Party elected in the second election of 1932, when the Nazi Party vote actually fell (from 37.3% to 33.1%), the oligarchy quickly installed Hitler as Chancellor. The Industrielleneingabe, signed by 22 major representatives of the German oligarchy, was sent to President Hindenburg requesting the appointment of Hitler; as Hindenburg was himself a member of the oligarchy he obeyed his instructions. Hitler was appointed Chancellor on January 30th, 1933, he was never elected to that position.
On March 25, Donald Trump signed an executive order declassifying all documentation related to Crossfire Hurricane, the FBI’s 2016 investigation into alleged collusion between Russia and then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. The order has unexpectedly resurrected buried documents that cast new light on the Steele dossier — and when it was known to be false.
With the rollout of sweeping US tariffs aimed at nations worldwide, economists and geopolitical analysts alike are astounded by what at face value looks like irrational self-sabotage attributed to incompetence within the White House.
