Weapons, Prostitutes and Drugs –These are Things Petro Poroshenko is Associated With
24.05.2014 | 00:00 | Gregory KOLYADA
No matter how few people may take part in the Ukraine’s presidential election on Sunday, the outcome is known in advance – Petro Poroshenko, the US favorite rote son, will be declared the winner of the race. The result will further split the country. Many regions refuse to recognize as President this chocolate king who is notorious for pocketing government money. Poroshenko has no chance to stop the bloody conflict even scrupulously carrying out all the orders given by Joe Biden, Victoria Nuland and Geoffrey Pyatt. Besides, the mission of putting an end to bloodshed has never been set by his US bosses…
Russia-China Shanghai Summit: Undeniable Success
24.05.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander SALITZKI
The visit of President Putin to China is over. No doubt is has become an event of historic importance. The Russian and Chinese leaders should know each other better – they have a long way to go strengthening bilateral cooperation. The level of mutual understanding is unprecedented. The prospects for Eurasia are breathtaking being boosted by comprehensive cooperation between Russia and China…
Pro-Nazi House of Windsor Joins Putin-Bashing
23.05.2014 | 08:27 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
Britain’s heir to the throne Prince Charles this week added his voice to Western propaganda effort demonizing Russian President Vladimir Putin. That’s a royal use of historical distortion considering the past pro-Nazi sympathies of Britain’s House of Windsor and the personal friendship between Hitler and former King Edward VIII – Charles’ granduncle… This crass distortion of history by Western officials, political leaders and media is not only devoid of facts and historical understanding. It is much more sinister than that. Demonizing Putin over the Ukraine crisis is out-and-out propaganda to mislead the Western public, by concealing the real cause and perpetrators of the turmoil in Russia’s strategically important neighbouring country. This inflammatory deception is recklessly setting the stage for an all-out war…

Obama’s Gambit: A New Indochina War
23.05.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN
…The new nationalist right-of-center Narendra Modi government in India has threatened China with force over disputed border territories. With such policies, Modi will find a willing partnership in Washington when it comes to tightening the noose on China. The recent unprecedented criminal indictments by the U.S. Justice Department of five Chinese military officers for allegedly hacking into private corporation computer systems in the United States may be the first shot of what may eventually end up as a new Indochina War, one of Mr. Obama’s own making…

Russia’s Rise to Global Power
22.05.2014 | 00:00 | Paul Craig ROBERTS
…Western propaganda about events in Ukraine has two main purposes. One is to cover up, or to distract from, Washington’s role in overthrowing the elected democratic government of Ukraine. The other is to demonize Russia… Putin can take the Ukraine back whenever he wants and turn his back on the West, a declining corrupt entity mired in depression and looting by the capitalist class. The 21st century belongs to the East, to China and India. The enormous expanse of Russia sits above both of these most populous of all countries. Russia can rise to power with the East.
The Crimean Frontier in World Development (I)
22.05.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander SALITZKI
The reunification of Crimea and Russia was an event whose international scale, as is now clear, exceeds not only the scale of Russian-Ukrainian relations, but also the European format of world politics and even the larger «West – Russia» format. It is no exaggeration to say that this event marked an upheaval on a global level… Many point to the turning back of Yevgeny Primakov’s airplane over the Atlantic in 1999 as one of the first signs of the emergence of the polycentric world. The fifteen years which have passed since then have confirmed both the correctness of the change in course and the accuracy of Russia’s staking on China and India as new partners. In this sense the Crimean saga of 2014 was the historically predictable response to the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999…
German Biotech Lobbyism Echoes in Eurasia
21.05.2014 | 00:00 | Igor ALEXEEV
Recent decision of German Poultry Association to allow use of genetically modified soy in poultry operation triggered new discussions on biotech food safety and GMO lobbyism. Consumers in the European Union should have the right to choose between organic and GMO food before the World Trade Organization neoliberal rules go into full effect… The EU agricultural sector is ineffective and extremely costly. Almost 40% of the total EU budget is still spent on the Common Agricultural Policy. In some countries political battles for agricultural subsidies take grotesque forms. For example, in March French farmers were so enraged at Brussels’ policy that they stormed into Paris’ iconic Louvre museum with a herd of sheep, Euronews reported…
What African State is Another Target for US Military Intervention?
21.05.2014 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV
The US has temporarily moved nearly 200 Marines to Sicily from their base in Spain. This is a precautionary step to bolster the ability to respond to a crisis in Africa… «We’re doing this as a contingency because we believe that the security situation in North Africa is deteriorating to a point where there could be threats», said Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman… In 2013 alone, AFRICOM conducted joint exercises with fourteen African nations, leading land, sea, and air-based operations carrying out a total of 546 «military activities» which is an average of one and half military missions a day… All over Africa, the United States has tried to check the growing influence of China. It’s easy to see what’s driving the US policy on the continent. Remembering Bill Clinton «It’s the economy, stupid». The planned military interventions are part of larger geopolitical game…
Anatomy of India’s General Election (II)
20.05.2014 | 19:00 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR
There are two competing narratives regarding what to expect from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His acolytes keep switching between overlapping descriptions of him to convey their adoration of their idol – Loha Purush (Iron Man) and Vikas Purush (Development Man). They believe passionately that Modi will put their country back on a high-growth track, root out corruption, and resort to a new, muscular foreign policy that enhances India’s global standing… A second narrative, on the contrary, is of ‘Apocalypse Now’, almost entirely borne out of Modi’s background as a pracharak or activist of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh [RSS], a far-right paramilitary organization founded in direct imitation of European fascist movements…
NATO Leaving Afghanistan: Have Transit Routes Going Through Russia Become Redundant?
20.05.2014 | 00:00 | Arkady DZIUBA
The battles raging in Ukraine, Syria and other politically sensitive parts of the globe are making the NATO transit facility at Ulyanovsk a sidelined issue fading in comparison with other hot topics. Two years ago the idea evoked hot discussions before the facility came into operation. The issue has almost died away as other events distracted attention. The transit center appears to be an example of Russia-NATO cooperation. Now NATO Secretary General openly says Russia is «rather an adversary than a partner». It calls for having a brief look at the recent history…
Kiev Regime Wages War to Reduce Ukraine’s Population
20.05.2014 | 00:00 | Olga SHEDROVA
…The casualties among Ukrainian military are growing… The Kiev Times, an established outlet with good reputation, published on May 15 a detailed piece describing in detail how the Kiev interim government concealed the facts about the death toll measured in thousands… The junta treats those who defend it with little respect. According to the Kiev Times, at first the corpses were taken to a crematorium in Kharkiv, then as the death toll rose in the first days of the operation, excavators came to Slavyansk and dug common graves to fill and level them off afterwards… The Ukraine’s economy is in doldrums. The junta members are cynical enough to do eerie things – they are reducing the country’s population. The corpses need no working places, salaries, pensions and unemployment benefits. The credits granted by International Monetary Fund could be spent for new military adventures while reducing the number of those who need budget allocations.
Anatomy of India’s General Election (I)
19.05.2014 | 15:50 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR
The stunning victory of the right-wing Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] in the recently-concluded general election in India needs to be understood from three perspectives – first, the sheer dimensions of the victory; second, its meaning; and, third, what it portends for India’s political economy in the coming five-year period in terms of national policies…
Russia, China: Predictable Relationship
19.05.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander SALITZKI
Russian President Putin is going to China. The news is like a gulp of fresh air in the suffocating atmosphere of Kiev with its burnt tires and repressions against dissidents. The tour is a positive step forward with bright prospects for future built on solid basis. This is a turning point in history. Russia is being dragged by the West into another cold war and is subject to unprecedented pressure with clear intentions to subvert it. It’s not just a collision of interests – the system of values is undermined, the very right of people and states for self-determination is scorned…
Ukraine: Tycoon Rinat Akhmetov Creates Puzzle
19.05.2014 | 00:00 | Natalia MEDEN
…There was a leak into media about Steinmeier meeting Rinat Akhmetov on May 13 during his short visit to Ukraine. The information was scarce. The Foreign Minister’s schedule was pretty busy including the meetings with Alexander Turchinov, acting speaker and president of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, acting prime minister of the country, the OSCE team and also a short stop in Odessa. The very fact that Steinmeier found time for an informal meeting with the richest Ukrainian tycoon displays how important it was for Berlin. It’s worth to note that the meeting was held away from radar screen. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs statements omitted the fact, but some believe the event was the main part of the tour…
US Intensifies Information Warfare Efforts to Bolster Kiev and Divide Ukraine
18.05.2014 | 12:16 | Boris NOVOSELTSEV
…The US supports the putschists’ plans to hold the election on May 25. It looks like an attempt to create a small puppet state on Ukrainian soil. Ignored by a large part of potential voters, the winner will become the president of only western and partially central parts of the country with Donbass and south-eastern regions excluded. Talking about its support of the country’s integrity, Washington leads the country to division in order to create a fortified springboard at the Russian border. The United States will do its best to pour fuel on the burning conflict in the south-east. Regional destabilization exacerbated by civil conflict is what will make the Kiev regime dependent on Washington.
Kiev’s Jumping Jackboots… It’s a Gas, Gas, Gas!
18.05.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
…Russian President Vladimir Putin flies to Shanghai next week. He is expected to sign historic energy deals with Chinese counterpart Xi Xiping on the development of massive gas and oil projects that will make the recalcitrant Ukraine seem like a gadfly. The jackboot arrogance of the Western junta in Kiev wants everything their way. They threaten Russia, attack ethnic Russians with deadly state-sponsored terrorism, and then turn around and refuse to pay up their gas bills. Russia does not need this gadfly irritation. And the puny strutting imposters in Kiev will learn the hard way from the reality of the principles they presume to promulgate. As the Rolling Stones nearly sang: Jumping jackboots, it’s a gas, gas, gas!..
Washington Spies on NATO; Other Allies
18.05.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN
As the United States marshals its eastern European NATO allies to confront Russia and the independence governments and movements in the Donbass and Odessa regions of Ukraine, the latest revelations of National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden confirm that the then-U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice ordered NSA to spy on the Washington embassies and New York UN delegations of a number of U.S. allies, including NATO members…
