8 people died and 16 were injured in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slavyansk on May 6. The casualties came as the result of Kiev’s military operation in the region. Meanwhile, residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine have decided to boycott the upcoming presidential election slated for May 25. That’s according to Oleg Tsarev, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, OR Verkhovna Rada. Earlier, the Donetsk and Lugansk regions voted to hold a referendum on autonomy. My dear friend and colleague, Jack Agueros died on Sunday, 4 May 2014. Anybody who has been following my writing will know that I had the pleasure and the honour of working with Jack for six years, when he hired me to design and build El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan’s East Harlem of which he was director. Jack had been ill with Alzheimer’s for some time but I was lucky enough to pay him a visit in 20008 whilst he still recognised those around him, but it was still heartbreaking to see my old friend, a shadow of his former self. You are sorely missed Jack. There’s an obituary to him here in the NYT and a much better one here, in el Diario. Salud Jack

Marcus Chown explains why, in the European elections, he is standing for the National Health Action Party in London.
I’m a science writer. I usually write about the big bang and parallel universes black holes. But I was born in the NHS, my wife is an NHS nurse and I can see that the NHS is rapidly disappearing down a black hole.

“As the building was engulfed in flames, photos posted on Twitter showed people hanging out of windows and sitting on windowsills on several floors, possibly preparing to jump. Other images showed pro-regime elements celebrating the inferno. Some jeered on Twitter that “Colorado beetles are being roasted up in Odessa,” using a derogatory term for pro-Russian activists wearing St. George’s ribbons.” – Mike Head, Washington responsible for fascist massacre in Odessa, World Socialist Web Site Continue reading

OPINION: Odessa Massacre Was Clean-Up Operation by Kiev
MOSCOW: Odessa regional councilman Vadim Savenko has told RIA Novosti in an interview that last Friday’s massacre in Odessa bore the hallmarks of a Kiev-organized “clean-up” operation against anti-coup protesters.

“Members of the public will be shocked by the extent to which foreign GM companies have muscled their way in to Government departments, developing a cosy relationship with ministers” said Dr Helen Wallace, Director of GeneWatch UK. “Ministers and officials are not acting in the public interest but colluding with the industry to push ahead with commercial plantings of RoundUp Ready GM crops and undermine EU safety laws”.
6 May 2014 — WSWS
In the wake of Friday’s fascist massacre of pro-Russian protesters at the Trade Unions House in Odessa, the US puppet regime in Kiev deployed National Guard units to the city yesterday. The sending of the National Guard, a force created by the Kiev regime after the fascist-led putsch in February that has worked closely with the neo-Nazi Right Sector militia to repress protests elsewhere in Ukraine, is a warning to the working class.
6 May 2014 — Land Destroyer
May 5, 2014 (Tony Cartalucci – NEO) – After the brutal massacre of over 40 anti-regime protesters in the southern port city of Odessa – most of whom were burned to death after being trapped within the city’s Trade Unions House – the Western narrative of “Russian aggression” driving the current unrest in Ukraine is ringing particularly hollow.
