Media Lens: No Nerve Agents Found – The OPCW Interim Report On Douma
17 July 2018 — Media Lens
In terms of suffering caused, there is often not, in fact, much to choose between dismembering and burning people alive with high explosives, shredding them with shrapnel, and choking them with poison gas. Modern ‘conventional’ weapons can be far more cruel and devastating than, for example, chlorine gas. But chemical weapons, prohibited by international law, are extremely potent in allowing Western ‘humanitarians’ to justify ‘intervention’ in response to crimes – real, hyped or imagined – that the West has itself far surpassed using more respectable forms of mass murder.

Media Lens: ‘An Impeachable Offence’ – Professor Postol and Syria
26 April 2017 — Media Lens
It is hard to believe that just three weeks ago the entire corporate media was in uproar over Syria; specifically, about the need to ‘do something’ in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack in Khan Shaykhun, Idlib, Syria, on April 4. Guardian commentator George Monbiot summed up the corporate media zeitgeist:
‘Do those who still insist Syrian govt didn’t drop chemical weapons have any idea how much evidence they are denying?’
Media Lens: Trump’s Tomahawks – The Instant Certainty Of The ‘Mainstream’ Press
12 April 2017 — Media Lens
As ever, it didn’t take long for them to make up their minds. Roy Greenslade reports in the Guardian on the media reaction to Donald Trump’s bombardment of Syria in ‘retaliation’ (USA Today) for the alleged chemical weapons attacks on Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib, Syria:
‘There was an identifiable theme in almost every leading article and commentary: “Well done Donald, but … ” The “buts” amounted to eloquent judgments on the president’s character, conveying explicit messages of disquiet and distrust.’
In other words, almost every leading article and commentary in every UK newspaper supported Trump’s blitz. Continue reading

Seymour Hersh unearths more lies on Syria By Jonathon Cook
6 April 2014 — Jonathon Cook
Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh has a second fascinating essay that rewrites the official record of the sarin gas attack on Ghouta, near Damascus, in August last year. As usual, Hersh uses his sources in the US security establishment to throw light on what really took place. The bottom line: Turkey was almost certainly the party responsible for the attack, hoping it would force Obama to honour his threatened “red line” if Assad used chemical weapons. Was the Assad regime to be brought down by a US military campaign, Turkey assumed it would be able to turn Syria into a client state.

Syria: Whose sarin? By Seymour M. Hersh
13 February 2014 — Voltaire Network
In August-September 2013, Barack Obama, David Cameron and François Hollande accused Syria of killing 1,400 opponents in the suburbs of Damascus. Denouncing that a red line had been crossed, they threatened to launch a punitive campaign against Assad’s criminal regime. Shortly after, London withdrew, then Washington, and finally Paris. Commenting on these events, Seymour Hersh shows that President Obama knew nothing of what had actually happened, abused the ignorance of his interlocutors and lied when he claimed to have evidence of Syria’s guilt.
