Iran’s president Ebrahim Raisi (right) in talks with visiting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Tehran, May 8, 2022

The unannounced arrival of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Tehran on Sunday makes yet another wrinkle to the geopolitics of West Asia. In a short trip of a few hours, Assad had meetings with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raeisi and returned to Damascus.

WaPo Publishes Gabbard Smear Piece Filled With Blatant Lies by Caitlin Johnstone

The Washington Post, which is wholly owned by a CIA contractor who is reportedly working to control the underlying infrastructure of the global economy, has published a shockingly deceitful smear piece about Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard in the wake of her criticisms of her opponent Kamala Harris’ prosecutorial record during the last Democratic debate.

Trump bows to domestic pressure by delaying his withdrawal from Syria; a storm is gathering in the Levant by Elijah J Magnier

2 January 2019 — Elijah J Magnier

In response to domestic pressure, Trump agreed to extend the deadline for withdrawal of thousands of US troops from the northeaster Syrian province of al-Hasaka from the initial 30 days previously announced until April this year.  Journalistic warmongers and hawks in think-tanks and among the US establishment have been railing at Trump with implausible arguments for maintaining the presence of US forces in Syria. The attacks on Trump are mainly justified on the pretext of protecting the US allies, the Kurds, from possible extermination by the Turks. Other analysts dare to repeat the absurd US mantra that “ISIS has between 20,000 and 30,000 militants in Syria and Iraq” to justify the continuous occupation of northeast Syria. If these arguments were not enough, others claim that Trump would be  delivering the north of Syria to Iranian and Russian scarecrows, or that he would be facilitating the “Iranian-Baghdad-Damascus-Beirut connection”. Trump remains determined to pull out, despite his allies Israel, France and the UK begging him to stay longer in the Levant.

Media Lens: Trump’s Tomahawks – The Instant Certainty Of The ‘Mainstream’ Press

12 April 2017 — Media Lens

As ever, it didn’t take long for them to make up their minds. Roy Greenslade reports in the Guardian on the media reaction to Donald Trump’s bombardment of Syria in ‘retaliation’ (USA Today) for the alleged chemical weapons attacks on Khan Sheikhoun, Idlib, Syria:

‘There was an identifiable theme in almost every leading article and commentary: “Well done Donald, but … ” The “buts” amounted to eloquent judgments on the president’s character, conveying explicit messages of disquiet and distrust.’

In other words, almost every leading article and commentary in every UK newspaper supported Trump’s blitz. Continue reading

Media Lens: Undermining Democracy – Corporate Media Bias on Jeremy Corbyn, Boris Johnson and Syria

6 February 2017 — Media Lens

Are we able to prove the existence of a corporate media campaign to undermine British democracy? Media analysis is not hard science, but in this alert we provide compelling evidence that such a campaign does indeed exist.

Compare coverage of comments made on Syria by a spokesman for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in October 2016 and by UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson in January 2017. Continue reading

Anatomy Of A Propaganda Blitz – Part 1

We live in a time when state-corporate interests are cooperating to produce propaganda blitzes intended to raise public support for the demonisation and destruction of establishment enemies.

Below, we will examine five key components of an effective propaganda campaign of this kind.

Media Lens: Damascene Conversions – Isis, Assad And The Bombing Of Iraq

1 September 2014 — Media Lens

This time last year, Western corporate media were focused on a single, grave threat to human life and civilised values. An endless stream of atrocity claims – some real, some fabricated with ‘evidence’ posted on YouTube – depicted President Assad of Syria as the latest incarnation of Milosevic, Saddam Hussein, bin Laden, Gaddafi: namely, the Official Enemy to be targeted for destruction.

The Syrian People Have Spoken By Thierry Meyssan

6 June 2014 — Voltaire Network

The Syrian presidential election surprised both Syrians and their allies and enemies. The poll, which everyone agrees was legitimate, mobilized 73.42% of the electorate, despite the inability of some people to get to the polls because of the occupation of part of the country by foreign mercenaries. Bashar al-Assad won 88.7% of the vote and his mandate has been extended for 7 more years.

Case Against Syria’s Assad Falls Apart

23 December 2013 — WashingtonsBlog

Evidence for Government Use of Chemical Weapons Fizzles

Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh recently destroyed America’s claim that it was clearly the Syrian government which carried out the chemical weapons attacks. Now, the U.N. weapons inspectors have quietly retracted one of their main claims implying that Assad we behind the attack.

A Short History Of The War On Syria – 2006-2014

14 September 2013 — Moon of Alabama

In 2006 the U.S. was at war in Iraq. Some of the enemy forces it very much struggled to fight against were coming in through Syria. The same year Israel lost a war against Hizbullah. Its armored forces were ambushed whenever they tried to push deeper into Lebanon while Hizbullah managed to continuously fire rockets against Israeli army position and cities. Hizbullah receives supply for its missile force from Syria and from Iran through Syria. Continue reading

Syria, The View From The Other Side By Stephen Gowans

22 June 2013 — What’s Left

His security forces used live ammunition to mow down peaceful pro-democracy protesters, forcing them to take up arms to try to topple his brutal dictatorship. He has killed tens of thousands of his own people, using tanks, heavy artillery and even chemical weapons. He’s a blood-thirsty tyrant whose rule has lost its legitimacy and must step down to make way for a peaceful democratic transition.

Sarin gas is as volatile as Washington’s promises by Thierry Meyssan

16 June 2013 — Voltaire Network

Did Syria or did she not use sarin gas against its armed opposition? After haunting newspaper columns, the question found a positive answer in Paris, London and Washington. The red line has apparently been crossed. War may therefore be imminent. In reality, this media game comes too late. In terms of international law, Syria is not a signatory to the chemical weapons Convention and may use them freely. Moreover, inventing that Damascus has used weapons of mass destruction is a perfectly futile ploy, considering that the war is nearing an end.

How damn convenient Syria Has Used Chemical Weapons

13 June 2013

How damn convenient!

Syria Has Used Chemical Weapons Against Rebels, U.S. and European Officials Conclude
American and European intelligence analysts now believe that President Bashar al-Assad’s troops have used chemical weapons against rebel forces in the civil war in Syria, an assessment that will put added pressure on a deeply divided Obama administration to develop a response to a provocation that the president himself has declared a “red line.”

So says the NYT quoting an ‘internal memorandum’. And just as the ‘rebels’ got a bloody nose and it looks like the Syrian govt might be turning the corner. It’s Saddam’s phony bloody WMD all over again!

But will we learn? And more importantly, will our propagandized population stop this madness? I’m doubtful. So another country destroyed in the Empire’s orgy of destruction.

Shame on us for doing nothing to stop the barbarians!

Syria : One Year After the Houla Massacre. New Report on Official vs. Real Truth By Adam Larson

18 May 2013 — Global Research

A week from now it will be one year since the world first heard about the horrors of a place in Syria called “Houla.” On the afternoon and evening of Friday, May 25, 2012, a reported 108 civilians were massacred there. They were executed inside their homes, with guns and “sharp tools,” and maybe a little bit from shelling as well. As the reader might recall, most of the victims were entire families, included some 49 younger children and even babies.

Assad and those pesky emails – Who is Sam @ alshahba?

19 March 2012The Angry Arab News Service

It seems that my early suspicions were correct.  None of the emails leaked belong to Bashshar Al-Asad, who I am told rarely use emails for security reason.  But this Syrian opposition website (which is known for having inside sources in Syria itself) had published this article on the “leaked” emails back in February and published the name of the government official whose email is Sam@alshahba.  His name is…Dr. Sam Dallah.  This makes sense if you read the emails and if you read the message from Shehrezad Al-Ja`fari in which she tells this sam that she misses him.  Plus, read this letter sent from sam@alshahba to Buthuayna Sha`ban, and it is clear that it can’t be from Bashshar Al-Asad from the phraseology and the manner of address.  And Al-Haqiqah says that Sam in a letter (another one?) indicated that he visited the Turkish embassy in Damascus, and of course, it can’t be Bashshar.  When I expressed early skepticism about the so-called Bashshar’s email many out there thought that I acted too instinctively.  I did, and I was right.

PS As a bonus material, you may read this academic article by Shehrezad Jafari.
