1. London Radical Bookfair & Alternative Press Takeover 2014

After last year’s successful inaugural event, the London Radical Bookfair returns bigger and better, this year teaming up with the Alternative Press gang to takeover all three floors of Bishopsgate Institute, opposite Liverpool Street station. 180 exhibitors, author events, book awards, workshops and more – too much going on to list here, so please have a look at the website for full details:http://londonradicalbookfair.wordpress.com/

2. Left Book Club run for sale

Housmans has a run of Left Book Club books – over 60 in total. If someone would like the whole collection they’re going for £100 + £10 to post to any UK address (or feel free to collect from us). If you need a run down of the exact titles let us know.

3. Zed Books Competition

To celebrate the launch of Zed Books’ new series ‘Critique Influence Change’, Housmans are running a competition to give two people a chance to win all five titles – includes titles by Michael Albert, Vandana Shiva and Ha-Joon Chang. 4. Petition to stop recruitment of 16 year olds into the UK armed forces

Our colleagues upstairs at Forces Watch have organised a petition calling on the UK Government to end its policy of allowing 15 year olds to apply and 16 and 17 year olds to be recruited into the armed forces – the UK is the only country in Europe,- and the only country among the permanent members of the UN Security Council, – to recruit 16 year olds into its armed forces. Housmans has a monthly book club which usually meets on the second Thursday of the month, starting at 7pm in the shop. Forthcoming titles under discussion are:

14. London Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group

Housmans has a regular Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group, who meet on the second Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, but please be prepared to join in the discussion. Please try to turn up by 7pm sharp.
