Ukraine: Why Inspectors Can’t Reach the Zaporozhye Nuclear Plant

    Monday, 15 August 2022 —  Internationalist 360°

The UN doesn’t want IAEA monitors to confirm Kiev was shelling the power plant, says local administration

Members of the UN are blocking a visit by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) so they can avoid confirming Kiev shelled the Russian-controlled facility, local official Vladimir Rogov told RT in an interview on Monday.

‘The Canary in the Coal Mine’: Sri Lanka’s Crisis is a Chronicle Foretold

    Tuesday, 16 August, 2022 — Socialist Project

    Éric Toussaint and B. Skanthakumar

Sri Lanka’s acute economic crisis and sovereign debt default, along with its people’s uprising in 2022, has drawn attention across the world. It is described as the ‘canary in the coal mine’, that is, a harbinger of the likely future for other global south countries. Eric Toussaint, spokesperson for the Committee for the Abolition of Illegitimate Debt (CADTM) interviewed via email Colombo-based Balasingham Skanthakumar of the Social Scientists’ Association of Sri Lanka and the CADTM’s South Asia network. The responses in draft were improved by Amali Wedagedera’s review and finalized on 5th August.

Kiev Tacitly Admitted to Waging Nuclear Terrorism Against Europe

    Monday, 15 August 2022 — Internationalist 360°

    Andrew Korybko

The only possible explanation for this shocking stance is that the West has become so desperate to stop Russia’s slow but steady advance throughout the latest phase of the Ukrainian Conflict that its ideologically driven elite are literally willing to sacrifice their own people’s lives and that of future generations in a last-ditch gamble to bring that about. Their citizens, meanwhile, obviously don’t approve of this but are powerless to shape the course of events.

    Eco-Socialism, Democratic Communism: Common Sense

    Sunday, 14 August, 2022 — Legalienate

“Are present ecological stresses so strong that if not relieved they will sufficiently degrade the ecosystem to make the earth uninhabitable by humans? Obviously no serious discussion of the environmental crisis can get very far without confronting this question.”

Barry Commoner in The Closing Circle: 1971

More than fifty years after Commoner wrote those words, the environmental problem is almost infinitely worse and what is presently called climate change once thought to affect future generations is engulfing the entire planet right now. While warnings from a scientific community not on corporate payrolls grow more desperate the global political power of capitalism, the primary cause of nature’s breakdown under stress, especially at its fading but still essential center in the USA, is making things worse not just by the hour or minute but every second.

A lot of cross-posting usually indicates that the article is popular and some links may not work, depending on your location but I’ve kept them anyway, so at least the reader has some idea of the scale of censorship now operating in the ‘democratic’ West.

(Part One of these two articles traced the origins of this concealed totalitarianism within European culture. This second piece takes the story and its implications further)

EU ‘blatantly lying’ about threat to Zaporozhye nuclear plant – Moscow

    Monday 15 August 2022 — RT

[I was able to connect to RT to retrieve this text, you may not be so lucky. B]

Brussels’ claim that Russia is the one threatening the facility is allowing Kiev to obstruct an IAEA inspection, Russia’s Foreign Ministry says

Accusations that Moscow is jeopardizing the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) contradict the facts and allow Kiev to undermine the International Atomic Energy Agency’s efforts to inspect the facility, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Will the West’s greed and hatred lead to the end of the world?

    Friday, 12 August, 2022 — The Saker

By Aram Mirzaei for the Saker blog

It can certainly be said that the risk for nuclear war is far greater today than it was less a year ago. Ever since the conflict in Ukraine began, the collective West and its vassals, also known as the “international community” have been engaged in a hybrid war against Russia, stopping just short of direct confrontation. Although some EU leaders like Borrell seem to think that the West is an active combatant in the conflict. “We must explain to our citizens that this is not someone else’s war,” Borrell said in an interview published by newspaper El Pais on Thursday. “The public must be willing to pay the price of supporting Ukraine and for preserving the unity of the EU.”

    Europe Dries Up

Sunday 14 August 2022 — The New Dark Age

    By Dr. Binoy Kampark

Scenes and pictures have been circulating of broken earth, lacking moisture, cracked and yearning.  But these are not from traditional drought-stricken parts of the planet, where the animal carcass assumes near totemic power amidst dry riverbeds or desert expanses.  Neither Australia nor Africa feature on these occasions – at least in a prominent way.  Europe, continent of historical arable sustainability, is drying up.

I’m resuming my occasional series discussing the ground conditions that make society susceptible to pandemania. See my last pandemania post if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I’m moved to resume this series because of some conversations I’ve had over the last few days that reminded me of why I am not letting the issue drop.

Iranian envoy to the IAEA in Vienna, Mohsen Naziri Asl, leaves Palais Coburg,  venue of closed-door nuclear talks, August 5, 2022

From the look of it, the US-Iran rapprochement is getting on to a bumpy start. The usage ‘rapprochement’ is deliberate — and will be disputed — because in the near term at least, what can be expected if an agreement is indeed reached in Vienna, which is an open question, can only be a state of cordial relations between the two countries, no longer hostile but not yet friendly either.
