Western Reset of Fascist Aggression Towards Russia

10.05.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

People in the West may perhaps find this year’s commemorations marking the end of World War II a little disorientating, especially in light of the current Ukraine crisis. A Western-backed fascist regime in Kiev is unleashing deadly violence against dissenting pro-Russian citizens, with the latest victims numbering 20 in the southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol. That death toll inflicted by state forces working with neo-Nazi paramilitaries on the orders of an unelected fascist junta in Kiev – backed by the West – comes days after dozens of Ukrainian citizens were killed in the eastern Donetz region and in the south-western port city of Odessa…

Bell Tolls Across Europe to Mourn Odessa Massacre Victims

09.05.2014 | 22:17 | Dmitry MININ

The very darkest deeds of that past Europe which its residents have already gotten used to thinking of as struck through long ago were entwined in the fire at the Odessa trade union building like a nightmare come to life… Europe’s hypocrisy in the face of the terrible tragedy in Odessa is not simply reading off the scale; it is instilling a deep concern that the whole ostentatious outer layer of European democratic virtues is actually so thin that it could rip at any moment and expose the abyss of international conflicts left unresolved by Europeans. «After 2 May», writes a Ukrainian observer, «holding elections in the country is already meaningless. It is as good as choosing the head of a concentration camp and then, with a sigh of relief, going to a European crematorium»…

Obama Resets ‘Pivot’ to Asia (III)

09.05.2014 | 20:07 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

The big question will be how China perceives the reset of the pivot strategy by Obama. While Beijing is intensely watching Obama’s policies on Ukraine, given its far-reaching impact on the world order, it will be wrong to rush to judgment that China views all of American policy through the prism of the most difficult crisis of the day, rather than taking the longer view. The coming weeks and months will show whether Beijing would choose to exploit the recrudescence of old European enmities (and America’s entanglement in them, being a congenital Atlantic power), to lean hard on China’s neighbors in the region…

The West on the Tragic Events in Ukraine: Lies and an Information Blockade

09.05.2014 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

…Neither the US nor Europe wants to admit that the Kiev regime is using military weapons, tanks and aircraft to suppress those opposing its dictatorship. Dozens of protesters have been killed, while hundreds have been maimed, abducted and imprisoned. This is now the new face of the European Union’s eastern neighbour. There has been virtually no reaction from the Western media or human rights organisations to the tragic events in Odessa. The fact that people were burned alive in the Odessa trade union building was reported briefly, with the lie that Russia is to blame for everything once again being reiterated… In the modern history of the West, it would be difficult to find another example of such shameful collusion between the political and media elites as is currently being evidenced in Ukraine…

On the Significance of the South Stream for Europe

09.05.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

…The meeting of the energy ministers of the G7 – Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the U.S., France and Japan – ended with no result. Planned with the goal of creating a unified anti-Russian front on energy, the G7 meeting brought forth yet another vague declaration about the principles of policy in this sphere saying that the ministers are «extremely concerned by the energy security implications of developments in Ukraine» for Europe. But the contradictions in the ranks of the G7 have not gone away. Germany, Italy, and to some extent Great Britain are still trying to postpone the imposition of sanctions against Russia on which the U.S. is insisting…

Hope Emerging For Ukraine

08.05.2014 | 19:19 | Alexander DONETSKY

The implementation of Moscow May 7 agreement may lead to a settlement. There is a long way to go. The ball is on the side of Kiev which must stop the punitive actions against its own people in the south-eastern part of the country… Those who are pursued by Neo-Nazi for their support of Ukraine becoming a federal state and Russian Ukrainians defending their right to speak their language – they all cherish hopes that the Putin – Burkhalter summit laid a foundation for peaceful settlement of Ukrainian crisis. The President Putin’s comments evoked appropriate reaction on the part of business circles. The ruble has significantly grown in relation to the euro. It means business gave the Swiss President a chance to catch up in popularity with President Putin. A few months ago the Russian President was called by Western media number one politician of the world. It testifies to the fact that they do recognize the important role Russia plays in European and global politics.

West, Ukraine: First Step to Recognizing Reality. Will it Go Further?

08.05.2014 | 14:50 | Boris NOVOSELTSEV

On May 6, US State Secretary John Kerry met Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission. The issue of Ukraine was high on the agenda… First of all, Washington should use its leverage and exert influence on the Kiev interim government to make it stop further escalation of tension and use of force.  The process will not move ahead till the junta conducts the «anti-terrorist» operation which, in fact, is a punitive action against civilians. It has already resulted in the death toll measured in dozens, like in Odessa, for instance. Right now the troops are attacking Slavyansk and Mariupol.  There will be no get ahead till Western politicians make the Kiev regime understand that the use of force in response to lawful demands of population is a  way to dead end…

Kerry’s Hyper-Hypocrisy Hits Escape Velocity

08.05.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

…The Americans see themselves above the law and normal boundaries that all other nations are obliged to respect.  This is what Russian President Vladimir Putin warned against in his New York Times opinion column at the end of last year when he referred to the «danger of American exceptionalism». The ineluctable endpoint of that mentality is «we are the master race». Is it any wonder, therefore, that Washington is today collaborating with neo-Nazis in Kiev? American government working with totalitarian fascists is not a contradiction. It is a natural progression…

Ukraine vs. Russia in the International Courts

08.05.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander MEZYAEV

In mid-April the secretary of the International Criminal Court (ICC) reported that the Government of Ukraine had lodged a declaration accepting its jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed on its territory from November 21, 2013 to February 22, 2014. Several days later, the Prosecutor of the ICC, F. Bensouda, decided to open a preliminary examination into the situation in Ukraine. In connection with this a number of important international law issues have arisen… In this case the collection of lawyers called the “International Criminal Court” refuse point blank to see that those who call themselves the government of Ukraine are nothing of the sort. That is, the ICC has become a party in the conflict in Ukraine. This fact deprives the institution of all signs of independence and impartiality…

Obama Resets ‘Pivot’ to Asia (II)

07.05.2014 | 13:11 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

While referring to the ‘pivot’ strategy in Asia, Gen. John Paxton, assistant commandant of the Marine Corps posed a key question during a recent speech, «Do we [US] have enough people and enough ships to do it?» He lamented, «We are on our way… to a less than a 300 ship navy. We are on our way to a 175,000 man Marine Corps». According to Gen. Paxton, the Marine Corps needs 54 amphibious ships to do its job, while current plans call for only 38 and that too is likely to shrink to 33. He asked, «With the dollars we have, and the ships we have and the aircraft we have, and the people we have, are we going to be ready to do what we need to do?»…

South African Sketches (IV)

07.05.2014 | 00:12 | Alexander MEZYAEV

The May 7 general election will make it clear who’ll rule the country for the next five years. As of May 1, 2014, the National Electoral Commission of South Africa registered 200 political parties, including 152 national and 48 provincial ones.  29 parties are taking part in the election… So, who’ll rule South Africa? It’s not an idle question. No matter in 2014 South Africa has ceased to be the leading African economy overtaken by Nigeria; it still is the leading power of the continent…

Western Warmongering Based on Lies and Fabrication

07.05.2014 | 00:03 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

Nearly a year ago American whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed the global scale of US government spying… Yet with all this capacity to breach private communications, the vast global web of American spy technology has not been able to produce a single piece of evidence to support Washington’s high-flown claims that Russia is secretly orchestrating protests in Ukraine. For weeks now, Western governments and their dutiful news media have been propounding a mantra that Moscow has infiltrated eastern and southern Ukraine to whip up «anti-Kiev», «separatist» or «pro-Russia» demonstrations. The accusation has become almost a doctrinal truth. President Barack Obama says it. His Secretary of State John Kerry says it. The US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power says it…

Council of Europe: Splendours and Miseries

06.05.2014 | 10:46 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

The Council of Europe, a leading European organization, was founded 65 years ago to promote cooperation between all countries of Europe in the areas of legal standards, human rights, democratic development, the rule of law and cultural co-operation… It should be noted that the organization has actually stopped to tackle acute social, economic and human rights issues – the problems that plague European states. Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland had to admit in his recent report that Europe faced a human rights crisis which was a real burning problem. According to him, «Human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe now face a crisis unprecedented since the end of the Cold War. Serious violations – including corruption, immunity from prosecution, impunity, human trafficking, racism, hate speech and discrimination – are on the rise throughout the continent. People’s rights are also threatened by the impact of the economic crisis and growing inequalities. The Council of Europe and its member States must act urgently to stop this erosion of fundamental rights».

America: The Country that Wrote the Playbook on the Destabilization of a Neighbor

06.05.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

…The entire gamut of false flag operations currently being waged in eastern and southern Ukraine by the CIA and its Ukrainian partners should be viewed through the lens of the CIA’s sordid activities in committing terrorist acts, libeling innocent people, and, perhaps, illegally manipulating elections in Quebec from the early 1960s to the present day. There is only one nuclear-armed country that has destabilized one neighboring nation that has demanded linguistic, cultural, and political rights and another seeking to wrest itself from domination by its more powerful northern neighbor. That country is the United States.

Obama Resets the ‘Pivot’ to Asia (I)

06.05.2014 | 00:00 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

The dust has settled down sooner than one would have thought on the US President Barack Obama’s 4-nation Asia tour, and the inevitable stocktaking is well under way. Obama earmarked an entire week for the trip to Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines. Without doubt, it was a major statement of the Obama administration’s strategic foreign-policy reorientation. But that statement is already lending itself to varying interpretations… The salience of the tour came to be that China didn’t figure in Obama’s itinerary and this is at a time when Beijing has locked horns with America’s key allies in the East and South Asia Seas…

Siding with Kiev US and EU Support Nazism

05.05.2014 | 15:40 | Alexander DONETSKY

…Today it must be stated clearly that European and US politicians, who support the Kiev regime, act as Nazi supporters. The international community cannot turn a blind eye on the fact that the programs of Svoboda and Trizub groups represented in the interim government, envision the establishment of Nazi dictatorship, as well as ethnic and racial cleansing.  The regime brought to power by the putsch has made the revival of Nazism its goal. Judging from many official statements, the US and leading European states support this policy.

Is German Chancellor Authorized to Rule Europe?

05.05.2014 | 10:49 | Nikolai BOBKIN

The foreign chiefs of 28 EU member-states are going to get together in the capital of Belgium on May 5 to discuss more sanctions against Russia. Meeting President Obama Angela Merkel already said the EU is ready to introduce a new package of anti-Russian sanctions. The German Chancellor appears to take the reins into her hands and rule Europe without asking for partners’ consent. At least that’s the way she spoke with the US President. It looked like she was the one to call the shots in the Old World…

Sweden Uses Ukraine to Heat Up NATO Entry Debate

05.05.2014 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

…On April 22, Sweden’s centre-right government coalition announced plans to increase military spending, with an emphasis on more fighter jets and submarines if the four parties win the September elections. If the coalition were to remain in power, it would aim to increase the military budget by five billion kronor ($760 million) annually, starting in 2015. The government said that spending would rise gradually until 2024, when the annual defense budget increase would be around 5.5 billion kronor (€604 million, US $835 million) greatly exceeding previous estimates. It cited the crisis in Ukraine as a reason to justify the burden… There is also a movement among high government officials to re-examine the long-running issue of joining NATO… By joining NATO Sweden will become a target of potential retaliatory strike and subject to the US influence to even greater extent, which is strong enough as it is…

Obama prepares to smash BRICS during his last few years in office

05.05.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

The buildup of NATO air and ground forces along the borders of Russia in eastern Europe and President Barack Obama’s American power-influencing trip to Asia have a single purpose. The seen and unseen forces who dictate policy to their political puppets in Washington, London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, and other vassal capital cities have decided to smash BRICS – the emergent financial power bloc encompassing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa… Not only are the BRICS countries shedding their dependency on the U.S. dollar as a trading and reserve currency, thus making the U.S. fiat currency backed by the manipulative practices of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank, even more worthless than it already is, but Russia and China are already trading in the ruble and the yuan, their respective currencies…

Khatyn Massacre Repeated in Odessa

04.05.2014 | 11:09 | Olga SHEDROVA

Khatyn was a village in Belarus, the Minsk region. On March 22, 1943, the entire population of the village was massacred by Nazi… On May 2, 2014 the tragedy was repeated in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. Around 15 hundred Pravy Sector militants and football hoodlums attacked the tent camp of anti-government protesters. Molotov cocktails were tossed. The tent camp was burnt to the ground. Many anti-Kiev protesters eventually hid inside the local House of Trade Unions. The first floor of the Trade Unions building was soon engulfed in flames. The people inside appeared to be trapped. Dozens eventually burnt alive or suffocated to death. To escape the fire and smoke, people were hanging out of windows and sitting on windowsills. In sheer desperation, some of them eventually jumped to the ground. Many of those who managed to escape the fire were then brutally beaten by Neo-Nazi. They used sticks against their victims. The actions were accompanied by the national hymn of Ukraine…

Kiev Murders Civilians with Orwellian Western Collusion

04.05.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

This time it seems that Washington has given renewed military impetus to the Kiev regime in the form of CIA-backed neo-Nazi paramilitaries operating alongside regular Ukraine forces – and also, very possibly, from the covert involvement of US mercenaries… At least 10 pro-Russian residents from the eastern town of Kramatorsk, near Slavyansk, were reportedly shot dead at the weekend… Elsewhere, up to 40 pro-Russian protesters were also killed after a building they were occupying in the southern port city of Odessa was deliberately set ablaze…

04.05.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander MEZYAEV

…Bravo, Simonovic! You have done a good job for your patrons! The masters are pleased! But there still remains the question: how can a UN official who is responsible for the state of human rights justify violations of human rights? And finally, one last question, but not addressed to Simonovic: can such a person represent the United Nations on issues of human rights at all?
