    A warning to Israel and the US: Yemen isn’t Syria

    Tuesday, 7 January 2025 — The Cradle

    Yemen, long seen as a victim of external aggression, is now rewriting the rules of engagement in West Asia. By targeting Israel and the US–UK navies with unflinching precision, Ansarallah has forced its adversaries into an unwinnable corner.

    Another baby freezes to death in Gaza

    Sunday, 5 January 2025 — Al Mayadeen English

    An eighth baby, Ali Youssef Ahmed Kloub, has tragically died from hypothermia in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli occupation continues its large-scale campaign of extermination and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians. The infant lived in a tent on a beach, enduring freezing conditions that have claimed the lives of several children this winter.

    In a heart-wrenching video shared by a Palestinian journalist on social media, the grieving mother, overcome with tears, described finding her child frozen, saying, “It was as if he had been placed in a freezer.”

    In a previous press release, Gaza’s Media Office emphasized the dire situation facing forcibly displaced families, whose homes were destroyed by Israeli airstrikes, leaving them vulnerable to the freezing winter conditions.

    Watch: Ukraine’s Exhausted Army Crumbles as West Considers Intervention

    Sunday, 5 January 2025 — The New Atlas

    • Ukrainian forces continue to suffer irreversible attrition prompting calls by Ukraine’s Western sponsors to begin drafting 18 year olds;
    • A French-trained and equipped brigade of over 4,500 troops is under investigation for large-scale desertions and reports of “abuse of power;”
    • Ukraine is losing manpower and equipment faster than it can be supplied to Ukraine, especially trained manpower and the larger units it is organized under;
    • A properly trained brigade can take up to 3 years to stand up, equip, and prepare for combat;
    • Western media admits Ukrainian forces are facing difficulties in holding Pokrovsk in the Donbass region as well as its shrinking area of operation in Russia’s Kursk region;
    • The fundamentals contributing to Ukraine’s incremental military collapse have not and cannot be addressed by its Western sponsors meaning only negotiations or more likely, Western intervention to create a Syria-style “buffer zone” will hold off a total collapse of Ukraine’s fighting capacity;
    • The US is likely waiting to maximize the cost imposed on Russian forces, its economy, and its geopolitical standing as the US places pressure along all of its periphery as the conflict in Ukraine continues;

    Notre-Dame de Paris in the age of Mar-a-Lago

    Philippe-Joseph Salazar

    Satan is, by tradition, the Persuader of worldly things, and the fallen Angel “whose light surpassed all others” (Thomas Aquinas). He certainly would have rejoiced at the “reopening” of Notre-Dame de Paris: propaganda and light displays were au rendez-vous. Setting aside the Sunday high mass that would deserve a rhetorical treatment on its own, the marketing-driven inauguration of Paris’s archepiscopal church offers an occasion to ponder and wonder about historical manipulations.

    Angela Merkel’s Revelation: The Minsk Agreements Were Not Intended To Be Pursued

    Saturday, 4 January 2025 — New Eastern Outlook

    The EU was born as a peace project. Is it still so? The former German Chancellor reveals in an interview and in her Memoirs that Europe preferred conflict to peace with Russia.

    Angela Merkel’s Revelation: The Minsk Agreements Were Not Intended To Be Pursued

    The Minsk Agreements: A Tactical Pause, Not a Path to Peace

    The former German chancellor Angela Merkel sparked controversy with her candid reflections on the Minsk agreements. These accords were ostensibly negotiated to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine after Russia’s accession of Crimea in 2014 as a result of a referendum by its residents and the subsequent outbreak of hostilities by the Ukrainian army and the Azov Battalion against ethnic Russians in the Donbas and Donetsk regions.

    If we review the hard powers resisting Israel’s Gazan turkey shoot, the first thing we notice is that almost all of these have been armed by Iran or its proxies, with the major exception being the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and its derivatives, which were headquartered in the former Syrian Arab Republic, whose new rulers are literally spreading their hind cheeks to accommodate Israel’s expansionist designs. When we consider that Turkey and its Azeri client state have been the main suppliers of oil to Israel, we can recognise corporate Sunni opposition to Israel for the hypocritical paper tiger that it is.

    Dear friends,

    Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.

    A study came out in December that made me cry. Titled Needs Study: Impact of War in Gaza on Children with Vulnerabilities and Families, it was conducted by the Community Training Centre for Crisis Management (CTCCM) in Gaza. Written in a clinical style, nothing about the language should have impacted me in the way that it did. But the study’s findings were shocking. Here are some of the cold facts:

    Targeting civilians in Gaza: The Israeli military’s unchecked policies

    Wednesday, 1 January 2025 — Al Mayadeen English

    Reports reveal alarming practices by the Israeli military in Gaza, where civilians face risks from repeated attacks on buildings labeled by “Israel” as Resistance sites, even after those buildings are no longer in use. Haaretz correspondent Yaniv Kubovich highlights disturbing policies, including the targeting of civilians entering such structures and a military culture of competition over casualties. These actions have devastating consequences, with attacks on designated humanitarian zones like Mawasi resulting in numerous civilian deaths.
