Europe is being weakened by this war, even if its elites have enriched themselves through various non-productive schemes.
The United States, in its grand geopolitical maneuvering regarding Ukraine, must have been fully cognizant of the improbability of dismantling Russia’s military strength or eroding its political coherence through conventional warfare or economic sanctions. Such a feat would seem at first to be an exercise in folly, and based on the miscalculations of Western leaders, particularly those surrounding the power vectors of Washington DC, Wall Street, and the City of London. Russia, with its immense territorial expanse, historical resilience, and strategic depth, is so highly unlikely to be brought to heel in such fashion, as evidenced by the results of the conflict, that it raises far more profound questions than one of mere folly. There are few accidents in politics, and by extension, geopolitics.
This hardly even counts as news, but we have further confirmation that Benjamin Netanyahu has sabotaged every deal to free the hostages, including stopping his negotiators from attending talks while US reptile Antony Blinken was blaming Hamas.

The title page of the first edition of V. I. Lenin’s work “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism”, published in Petrograd in 1917. By Filimonov Ivan – http://www.litfund.ru, Public Domain, Link.
Updated November 3, 2024. —Eds.
It is a sign of the depth of the structural crisis of capital in our time that not since the onset of the First World War and the dissolution of the Second International—during which nearly all of the European social democratic parties joined the interimperialist war on the side of their respective nation-states—has the split on imperialism on the left taken on such serious dimensions.1 Although the more Eurocentric sections of Western Marxism have long sought to attenuate the theory of imperialism in various ways, V. I. Lenin’s classic work Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism (written in January–June 1916) has nonetheless retained its core position within all discussions of imperialism for over a century, due not only to its accuracy in accounting for the First and Second World Wars, but also to its usefulness in explaining the post-Second World War imperial order.2 Far from standing alone, however, Lenin’s overall analysis has been supplemented and updated at various times by dependency theory, the theory of unequal exchange, world-systems theory, and global value chain analysis, taking into account new historical developments. Through all of this, there has been a basic unity to Marxist imperialism theory, informing global revolutionary struggles.

An Israeli born Jewish Professor had been arrested by the British police over alleged “terrorism”, after a pro-Palestine speech
Haim Bresheeth, a Jewish professor whose parents were survivors of Nazi Holocaust and had himself been a member of the Israeli army, has been arrested for a speech at a pro-Palestine protest under the Terrorism Act of 2000. At one point in the speech, the professor said that Israel “cannot win against Hamas, they cannot win against Hezbollah, they cannot win against the Houthis. They cannot win against the united resistance to the genocide they have started.”

Starmer offers empty rhetoric to hold “Israel” accountable in the top court, but has refused to characterize Israeli bloodshed as genocide. (Al Mayadeen English; Illustrated by Batoul Chamas)
Britain’s credibility crisis is as clear as day. It claims no role in “Israel’s” war of extermination, but continues to serve as its apologist state.
On October 22nd, independent journalists Paul D. Thacker and Matt Taibbi published a bombshell investigation, exposing how the intelligence-adjacent Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) hatched a covert plot at the start of 2024 to “kill [Elon] Musk’s Twitter.” This highly politicised attack on ‘X’ is just one component of a wider British invasion of the US political sphere, designed to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, guarantee the election of Kamala Harris, and keep Washington embroiled in the Ukraine proxy war quagmire.

Covert PR operations involving the secret profiling of over 3,000 people and organisations considered “critics” of the pesticide industry recently made headlines around the world. The secret profiles, including ones on GMWatch and its co-directors, are said to include private and personal, even intimate, information that lawyers say violate privacy laws in several countries and regions, such as the UK, the European Union, Kenya and India. They also include false, misleading and malicious claims (examples below), clearly designed to damage the reputations of those targeted. |

In this episode, Andrew and Chelsey ask the question: what is the nature of the relationship between Israel and America? Is Israel a US puppet, or is America Israel’s puppet? Or… neither? Both? This episode takes a look at the nature of patron-client imperial relationships, with past and present examples, and bringing it back to the present war in the Middle East, focusing on the context of changing nation-to-nation relationships of an America in decline and an Israel going insane.
IFS chiel Chris Donnelly is covertly leading Britian’s contribution to the Ukraine proxy war, committed to a strategy of endless escalation and provocation. (Al Mayadeen English; Illustration by Batoul Chamas)
Given British fears that Trump’s election will mean the proxy war’s end, Harris represents London’s last chance to foment “armed conflict of the old-fashioned sort” with Russia, as long-desired by IFS. (more…)
In Gaza’s northern sector, survivors from the Abu Nasr family recount the brutal Israeli massacre on the Beit Lahia project that killed at least 117 people. A survivor told Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Gaza, “The targeted building was housing 250 civilians, and we had to walk around and over the bodies of our relatives and loved ones.” Another survivor from the Abu Nasr family said, “The [Israeli] occupation destroyed the residential building days ago without prior warning” using “American weaponry”

Israel’s actions against journalists raise alarm as media casualties reach unprecedented numbers, surpassing WWII and Vietnam combined, with Western media still backing the alarming attacks on press freedom.

Following firearms officer Martyn Blake’s acquittal just over a week ago of the murder of Chris Kaba, it did not take long for the home secretary to cave in to demands from the National Police Chiefs Council to rewrite the framework for the investigation and prosecution of police officers. Yvette Cooper’s proposed reforms follow the police script almost to the letter. A ‘presumption of anonymity for firearms officers subject to criminal trial following a police shooting … up to the point of conviction’ is proposed, along with a review of the charging threshold to make prosecution for on-duty actions harder. This after a year of outrage from firearms officers, who threatened to hand in their guns in protest at the CPS decision to prosecute Blake. The Police Federation also reacted angrily when the mental health charity Mind tweeted a message of support for people affected by Chris Kaba’s killing.
Prefatory Note This post is a much modified, updated version of my responses to questions posed Murat Sofuoglu, a Turkish journalist associated with TRT World. The dehistoricizing and decontextualization of the Hamas attack of October 7 was spread around the world by the most influential global media platforms and political leaders of the liberal democracies, and led to widespread sympathy for Israel and some months of tolerance of their response despite its legally and ethically unacceptable character. As such the Israeli response was initially sanitized by regarding Palestinian grievances in Gaza as irrelevent, and also by uncritically accepting Israeli hasbara that its response to the Hamas attack was solely motivated by security and counter-terrorist considerations, and thus disconnected from the Greater Israel priority and preoccupations of the Netanyahu coalition that came to power at the start of 2023 or more than nine months before the attack.]

Dear friends,
Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
In 1919, Winston Churchill wrote, ‘I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes’. Churchill, grappling at the time with the Kurdish rebellion in northern Iraq as Britain’s secretary of state for war and air, argued that such use of gas ‘would spread a lively terror and yet would leave no serious permanent effects on most of those affected’.

Liberals love to indulge in performative virtue signaling rather than serious political conviction. Recent events proved that their highest priority is maintaining alliances with the Democratic Party, while dismissing any inconvenient truths that point out their hypocrisy.
