BBC defends false claims linking Rachel Corrie to killings of Israeli soldiers By Amena Saleem

3 April 2013 — The Electronic Intifada

The extent to which the BBC is prepared to misreport on the Israeli occupation has been made clear once again. A new ruling by the BBC Trust has defended the corporation’s coverage of the Rachel Corrie case, even though it falsely implied that the unarmed activist was in some way responsible for the deaths of Israeli soldiers.

Merging with Rachel Corrie – A Dedication to Non-violence By Matthias Chang

16 June, 2010 — Global Research – Future FastForward

Global Research Editor’s Note
Matthias Chang, a distinguished Malysian barrister, former private secretary to the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. Acting on behalf of the Perdana Global Peace Organization, Matthias Chang was one of the key architects of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. An unbending commitment to the causes of peace, justice and non violence combined with unusual organizational capabilities is the driving force behind Matthias Chang.

Michel Chossudovsky, Editor of Global Research, 16 June 2010

rachel-corrie.jpgSailing on MV Rachel Corrie has changed my life and my perspective on many issues that I hold dear. I am humbled by the experience and have learned so much from everyone on board the ship.

MV Rachel Corrie was previously known and registered as MV Linda, a 43-year old cargo vessel abandoned by her owners. Her crew was left in a lurch when the owners failed to pay their wages for over a year. The crew took her to the port of Dundalk in Ireland for refuge.

Rejected and in disrepair, she was dying of neglect. She had much to offer but no one cared.

On the 22nd January 2010, I received a letter from the solicitors for the Free Gaza Movement that she has been identified as a potential cargo ship to bring aid to Gaza and preparations were made to purchase her.

I was elated, as it was only six months ago that like-minded activists from the Free Gaza Movement and the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, headed by the fourth prime minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad gathered in Cyprus to explore the suggestion that a flotilla of cargo ships and passenger boats would be more effective in breaking the horrendous blockade imposed by Israel on Gaza than despatching a single boat as had been the previous missions organised by the Free Gaza Movement. Within three weeks, we were able to raise, with the assistance of the wife of the prime minister of Malaysia, the sum of RM1.5 million and a month later another sum of RM90,000 to purchase aid for the Palestinians. The monies were sufficient to buy a cargo ship and two passenger boats. The flotilla became a reality. The rest as they say is history.

Hostages on the Way Home – But How Many?

3 June, 2010 — PSC

The latest news on those peace activists who have been illegally held by the Israeli Government is encouraging. We understand that the majority of those being held have been released and are heading back to their homes, via Istanbul. However, we have been told that not all the hostages have been released, with certain activists being singled out for longer detention.

PSC will continue with its campaign to bring pressure on the Israeli Government to release all those who where taken from the flotillas immediately, including a number of Palestinian Israelis who may face criminal charges.

From the reports we have received from those who have been freed, many have witnessed the shootings that took place on board the boat, and with one PSC volunteer cradling a victim of shootings as he died.

We hope to bring you a detailed account from the eyewitnesses who were on board the Mavi Marama.

Rachel Corrie: The Mural Speaks

10 May, 2010 — MRZine-Monthly Review olympiarafahmural.org

The Rachel Corrie Foundation and Break the Silence Mural Project co-present
The Mural Speaks

The Mural Speaks

Come celebrate the completion of this dynamic, interactive mural at a free event at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 8 at the Labor Temple building, corner of State and Capitol, downtown Olympia.  The Mural Speaks event is more than a mural commemoration; it’s a public art project that has galvanized and touched local residents, as well as individuals and groups nationwide and globally.  The Mural Speaks is also the finale to the People’s Movement Assembly, May 8th, 9-5, a gathering of Olympia’s grassroots organizers to discuss the US Social Forum and other strategies moving forward (for more information: omjp.net).

The Olympia-Rafah Solidarity Mural Project furthers Rachel Corrie’s dream of building a sister city relationship between Rafah, Gaza Strip, Palestine, where she was killed in 2003, and Olympia, Washington, USA, where she grew up and attended The Evergreen State College.  “Through collaborative art the mural educates and raises awareness that human rights are universal — everyone deserves a viable life,” says Susan Greene, a clinical psychologist and muralist, who conceived of the project.
