A Roster of Bigotry: UKIP, the Tories and the Far Right By Tim Holmes

9 May 2013 — New Left Project

When the racism and bigotry fuelling the EDL-backed UK Independence Party were finally revealed to public view, the results were never going to be pretty. So it proved last week, as the threat to the Tories prompted a huge dirt-digging operation, exposing a party bringing far-right extremism into the mainstream. Continue reading

Hold the front page! We need free media, not an Order of Mates By John Pilger

9 May 2013 — John Pilger

The other day, I stood outside the strangely silent building where I began life as a journalist. It is no longer the human warren that was Consolidated Press in Sydney, though ghosts still drink at the King’s Head pub nearby. As a cadet reporter, I might have walked on to the set of Lewis Milestone’s The Front Page. Men in red braces did shout, “Hold the front page”, and tilt back their felt hats and talk rapidly with a roll-your-own attached indefinitely to their lower lip. Not Your Daddy’s COINTELPRO: Obama Brands Assata Shakur “Most Wanted Terrorist”

by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

Assata Shakur could not have been named “most wanted terrorist” without the explicit approval of the first black president and his attorney general. In doing so, they have declared open war on the black liberation movement, something that J. Edgar Hoover and COINTELPRO were only able to do in secret. Continue reading
