IRR: What is happening to equalities in the UK?

23 September 2021 — Institute of Race Relations

What is happening to equalities in the UK? After a former employee of the statutory body, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, accused the EHRC of ‘colluding in the denial of institutional racism’, IRR News reminds readers of a series of its pieces which over the past year have warned how this government appears set on disappearing the matter of structural racism whilst reversing hard-won civil rights in the name of ‘freedom of speech’ and ‘viewpoint diversity’.

Guardian columnist Owen Jones markets himself as a leading leftist voice.

His profile on Twitter, where he has more than one million followers, emphasizes his “anti-fascist” credentials.

Why, then, did he just publish a defense of a Nazi collaborator? An Israeli judge once ruled that Zionist leader Rezső Kasztner was Holocaust architect Adolf Eichmann’s “catspaw,” but Jones seems to disagree.

Where Flowers Find No Peace Enough to Grow: The Thirty-Eighth Newsletter (2021)

Dear friends,

Greetings from the desk of the Tricontinental: Institute of Social Research.

On 13 July 2021, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopteda landmark resolution on the prevalence of racism and for the creation of an independent mechanism made up of three experts to investigate the root cause of deeply embedded racism and intolerance. The Group of African States pushed for this resolution, which had emerged out of global anger over the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police on 25 May 2020. The discussions in the UNHRC considered the problems of police brutality and went back to the formation of our modern system in the crucible of slavery and colonialism. A number of Western countries – such as the United States and the United Kingdom – hesitated over both the assessment of the past and the question of reparations; these governments were able to remove the requirement to investigate systematic racism in US law enforcement.

A reflection on covid mania

23 September 2021 — Dr Sebastian Rushworth M.D.

by Sebastian Rushworth, M.D.

At the beginning of this year I wrote about how the governments of the world had created a collective state of hysteria so intense that the only way they could dig themselves out of the hole they had made was with a magic bullet. That magic bullet was, of course, the vaccines. I wrote that it didn’t really matter how effective the vaccines were in the real world, or whether they prevented transmission. All that mattered was getting every single person on the planet to take the vaccine, after which the politicians would be able to declare victory.

Eric Schmidt Cashes in on Artificial Intelligence Arms Race

21 September 2021 — MintPress News

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA — The United States is leading a new artificial intelligence arms race that could spell the end of humanity.

Back in 2014, a few years before he died, Stephen Hawking warned us about artificial intelligence:

The primitive forms of artificial intelligence we already have, have proved very useful. But I think the development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it would take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn’t compete and would be superseded.”

Today, artificial intelligence, or AI, is the centerpiece of the U.S. empire’s plan to maintain global dominance.

Draconian new legislation set to shut down protest at Scottish Parliament ahead of COP26

22 September 2021 — NetPol
