COVID JUSTICE CRISIS: MPS, RIGHTS GROUPS AND LAWYERS CALL FOR URGENT REVIEW OF ALL COVID FINES AND PROSECUTIONS

  • 40+ parliamentarians, 15 rights groups and human rights lawyers demand Government launches a review of coronavirus fines and prosecutions
  • They submit “substantial evidence that thousands of people have been wrongfully fined and even prosecuted unlawfully under coronavirus-related legislation” amid “allegations of numerous offences under these same laws in the heart of Government”.
  • In a joint letter published by civil liberties campaign group Big Brother Watch and criminal justice watchdog Fair Trials, the signatories cite the discriminatory, inconsistent and unlawful enforcement of coronavirus laws and regulations. The far Right, conflict narratives and race war

Thursday, 3 February 2022 — Institute of Race Relations

Getting the facts out quickly about far-right violence is one of the things that motivates us to bring out IRR News, with our fortnightly calendar of racism and resistance a continuation of IRR’s role as a place of record documenting Europe’s white supremacist movements. This long monitoring experience has taught us that wars abroad provide opportunities for neo-Nazis to join up as ‘foreign fighters’ with battlefield experience subsequently brought back home and channelled into ‘race war’. This was true after the war in Vietnam (where some Vietnam veterans invigorated white power movements in the 1980s); true during the Balkans wars of the 1990s (European fascists provided material support for Serbian terror in Bosnia and glorified the ethnic cleansing of Muslims at Srebrenica) and it is true today, with neo-Nazis from Europe and the US joining ultra-nationalist and neo-Nazi Ukrainian militia, such as the Azov Battalion.

Make Noise about the Silent Crisis of Global Illiteracy: The Fifth Newsletter (2022)

Thursday, 3 February 2022 — The Tricontinental

Amadou Sanogo Mali Je pense de ma tete 2016Amadou Sanogo (Mali), Je pense de ma tête, 2016.

Dear friends,

Greetings from the desk of the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.

In October 2021, the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) held a seminar on the pandemic and education systems. Strikingly, 99% of the students in the region spent an entire academic year with total or partial interruption of face-to-face classes, while more than 600,000 children struggled with the loss of their caregivers due to the pandemic. It is further estimated that the crisis could force 3.1 million children and youth to drop out of school and force over 300,000 to go to work. At the seminar, Alicia Bárcena, the executive secretary of ECLAC, said that the combination of the pandemic, economic turbulence in the region, and the setbacks in education have caused ‘a silent crisis’.

Blackwater is in Donbass with the Azov battalion

Tuesday, 1 February 2022 — Voltaire Network

by Manlio Dinucci

The CIA and MI6 are reorganizing NATO stay-behind networks in Eastern Europe. If after the Second World War they relied on former Nazis to fight the Soviets, they still support neo-Nazi groups against the Russians. There is no obvious reason for this. The Nazis were plethora in the 1940s, they are very few today and only exist thanks to the help of the Anglo-Saxons.

The phone call between President Biden and Ukrainian President Zelensky “did not go well”, CNN headlines: while “Biden warned that a Russian invasion is practically certain in February, when the frozen ground makes it possible for tanks to pass through”, Zelensky “asked Biden to lower his tone, arguing that the Russian threat is still ambiguous”. As the Ukrainian president himself takes a more cautious stance, Ukrainian armed forces are massing in the Donbass near the area of Donetsk and Lugansk inhabited by Russian populations.
