Away from the Tory Babel over who will be the top “world-leading” sociopath, I spent the last two evenings in the company of decent people. John and Gabriel Shipton, Julian’s father and brother, were in Glasgow and Edinburgh for the screening of “Ithaka”, the documentary that follows the fight by Julian Assange’s family to have him freed. I was moderating the Q & A.

A lot of cross-posting usually indicates that the article is popular. Annoyingly, links to RT and some other sites sometimes work but more often than not, don’t. However many are available via the RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) and I’ve discovered that even when the site is not reachable, the actual text is accessible via the App!

Ray McGovern is a retired CIA analyst who was head of the Russia desk and delivered daily briefings to two US presidents from the 1970s to 90s.
This talk was hosted by Regis Tremblay on July 8 2022 as part of the Global Conversations series, with a description: “Ray McGovern’s presentation on the history of US provocations against Russia helps to understand Russia’s position on the special intervention in Ukraine.”

COUNTERPUNCH on July 15, 2022. It attempts to connect my despair about developments
In America with wider global systemic tendencies. It is not hopeful about the future, yet
Its central message is that we should continue to struggle for a future we can believe in given that we live at a time of radical uncertainty.]

US forms a West Asian Quad with Israel, India and UAE, which held its first summit meeting in virtual setting on July 14, 2022 coinciding with President Biden’s first regional tour of West Asia.
India’s involvement with US President Joe Biden’s quixotic venture called “I2-U2 Summit” is bizarre, to put it mildly. India’s excellent relations with Israel and the UAE are best pursued on the highly successful bilateral tracks instead of complicating them with the Abraham Accords or the US’ big power rivalry with Russia and China for regional influence in the Middle East — leave alone partaking of the wasteful American and Israeli obsession of “Iranophobia”.
Gaza Fights Back tells the story of Israel’s 2021 11-day war on Gaza, the human toll, and how Gaza’s armed resistance groups outmaneuvered the vastly more powerful Israeli military.

Top end kit at rock bottom prices. Welcome to the war in the Ukraine. For nearly a year, the western world has been handing assistance to Kiev hand over fist. Whilst the media has given the Ukraine nothing but praise, governments in the West have lavished it with everything else from munitions to money to missiles. There is a problem however. In spite of the West breaking the bank in order to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian, the Russians are breaking the Ukrainians and their western toys pretty much anywhere they please. This is now becoming impossible to hide, a number of westerners now calling for a halt to the assistance being given to Kiev. This article will examine what’s what and where this may all go.

The International Committee of the Democratic Socialists of America has released a statement opposing the US government’s ongoing proxy war in Ukraine, saying the billions being funneled into the military-industrial complex “at a time when ordinary Americans are struggling to pay for housing, groceries, and fuel” is “a slap in the face for working people.” The statement advocates a negotiated settlement for peace, saying continuing to pour weapons into the country will “needlessly prolong the war, resulting in more civilian deaths” and that it “risks escalating and widening the war – up to and including nuclear war.”

On July 2 Lysichansk came under Russian control:
This comes only a week after the cauldron around Lysichansk began to close. Until a few hours ago there was still a chance to flee from Lysichansk but the only passable road was under Russian fire. It is not know yet how many made it out or how many gave up and were taken prisoners.
Nú Barreto (Guinea-Bissau), A Esperar (‘Waiting’), 2019.Dear friends,
Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
The world is adrift in the tides of hunger and desolation. It is difficult to think about education, or anything else, when your children are not able to eat. And yet, the sharp attack on education during this past decade forces us to consider the kind of future that young people will inherit. In 2018, before the pandemic, the United Nations calculated that 258 million, or one in six, school age children were out of school. By March 2020, the start of the pandemic, UNESCO estimated that 1.5 billion children and youth were affected by school closures; a staggering 91% of students worldwide had their education disrupted by the lockdowns.

Palestinian-American activist Alex Odeh was murdered outside his California office in October 1985. For decades, law enforcement officials have openly speculated that the perpetrators were members of the Jewish Defense League (JDL) – a terrorist group led at the time by the notorious militant Irv Rubin. It is widely alleged that three individuals – Robert Manning, Keith Israel Fuchs and Baruch Ben Yosef (also known as Andy Green) carried out the task.
