BREXIT: AN OVEN READY DEAL OR WAS THE OVEN EVEN SWITCHED ON. Populism in disarray

    18 October 2020 — theplanningmotivedotcom

If Johnson was serious about a “No Deal Brexit”, his government would have prepared for one, particularly at this late stage. He would have put in place the necessary infrastructure – custom officers and posts, warehouses, tarmac, computer programs, a suite of forms available for companies and so on. Instead he has offered Porto Loos in Kent. To the chagrin of panicked importers and exporters, little is in place. According to the institute of directors, barely 50% of companies are ready. This is fortunate, because most have avoided the expense of a Hard Brexit or as it is now described, an Australian Brexit. Perhaps they clocked that there was always going to be a deal. Even the Tory Right “UK Freedom” fighters, who dabbled with“No-Deal”, know that in the face of a pandemic, a no-deal Brexit is economic suicide. Not so much throwing crates of fish overboard, as the gale sinking the whole damn fleet with all hands.

    Masquerade f5c01

Since the beginning of this year – of infernal subterfuge and chaotic transformation of civilised society – one of the few ways to assess the truth of what is happening, what is being done and by whom, is in a resort to “science”. While science in its broader sense merely means “knowledge”, I’m restricting my assessment to strictly scientific matters where there is only one truth.

    “Regrets,” But No Apologies

U.S. Aircraft Landings on Hainan Island, 1970 and 2001

Washington, D.C., October 16, 2020 – Over the years, aerial and naval encounters have threatened to destabilize U.S-China relations as the two powers contest each other’s rights in international airspace and waters. A major incident occurred on 31 March 2001 (Washington time) when a U.S. EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft made an emergency landing on China’s Hainan Island after a Chinese People’s Liberation Air Force aircraft collided with it in international airspace, some 62 miles from Hainan.  Today, the National Security Archive is publishing for the first time “talking points” and position papers justifying the U.S. position in the EP-3 crisis prepared for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.  The documents are part of a release of Rumsfeld “snowflakes” acquired through an Archive lawsuit against the Pentagon. You may remember Crisp Websites Limited, trading as PestFix, the company with last reported net assets of £18,047.

On the 10th June, we sent a judicial review pre-action protocol letter to the Government asking why they had agreed to pay 75% upfront for isolation suits worth £32m, to PestFix. PestFix had materially no assets, no experience in supplying PPE for use in a medical setting, and has since admitted supplying faulty facemasks. Along with EveryDoctor, we have issued judicial review proceedings and will have a hearing in late February. (more…)

“It’s Easier to Fool People Than It Is to Convince Them That They Have Been Fooled.” – Mark Twain

    Abstract

SAGE made – and continues to make – two fatal errors in its assessment of the SAR-CoV-2 pandemic, rendering its predictions wildly inaccurate, with disastrous results. These errors led SAGE to conclude that the pandemic is still in its early stages, with the vast majority (93%) of the UK population remaining susceptible to infection and that, in the absence of more action, a very high number of deaths will occur. To Rebel Against Necessity and More

    12 October 2020 — Edward Curtin

“Compassion has no place in the natural order of the world, which operates on the basis of necessity. The laws of necessity are as unexceptional as the laws of gravitation. The human faculty of compassion opposes this order and is therefore best thought of as being in some way supernatural. To forget oneself, however briefly, to identify with a stranger to the point of fully recognizing her or him, is to defy necessity, and in this defiance, even if small and quiet and even if measuring only 60cm. x 50cm., there is a power that cannot be measured by the limits of the natural order. It is not a means and it has no end. The Ancients knew this.”

    Dear friends,

Greetings from the Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.

On 9 October 2020, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the United Nations’ World Food Programme. In the citation for the award, the Norwegian Nobel Committee pointed to the ‘link between hunger and armed conflict’, noting that ‘war and conflict can cause food insecurity and hunger, just as hunger and food insecurity can cause latent conflicts to flare up and trigger the use of violence’. The demand for zero hunger requires ‘an end to war and armed conflict’, said the Nobel Committee. (more…)
