Thinking about revolution

26 September 2011 — New Democracy World

Dear friends,

As mounting economic insecurity and hardship are making more and more Americans realize, it is time for a revolution in the United States, as well as throughout the world. The attached Call for Democratic Revolution (also online at http://newdemocracyworld.org/revolution/thinking.pdf) was written to help people discuss how to build a revolutionary movement, and it includes a vision of a new world that revolution can make possible. This Call addresses the practical question, “If I want to help build a revolutionary movement but I still need to make a living and support my family, what should I actually do, starting today?”

The Call is meant to be read by everyone who knows something is very wrong about our current society—i.e. most people—whether they are activists or consider themselves “political” or not.

Please read this Call and make copies to share and discuss with your friends and neighbors. And please let me know what your thoughts are about it.

Thank you.

Libya: NTC concocts mass grave story in brazen propaganda ploy and the BBC spreads it

25 September 2011 — empirestrikesblack

In a truly stunning display of dishonesty, the BBC has reported, citing no evidence to back its claim, that a mass grave containing over 1,200 bodies has been found in Tripoli’s Abu Salim prison complex. The BBC attempts to tie this ‘finding’ to the equally concocted ‘Abu Salim prison massacre’, as it claims that the bodies are those of the inmates supposedly killed in 1996.

Welcome to the Police State: NYC Cops Mace Peaceful Protestors Against Wall Street

I’m beginning to wonder whether the right to assemble is effectively dead in the US. No one who is a wage slave (which is the overwhelming majority of the population) can afford to have an arrest record, even a misdemeanor, in this age of short job tenures and rising use of background checks.

Why Iceland Should Be in the News, But is Not By Deena Stryker

14 September 2011 — Daily Kos

An Italian radio program’s story about Iceland’s on-going revolution is a stunning example of how little our media tells us about the rest of the world. Americans may remember that at the start of the 2008 financial crisis, Iceland literally went bankrupt. The reasons were mentioned only in passing, and since then, this little-known member of the European Union fell back into oblivion.

Action Alert: What if the Tea Party Occupied Wall Street? Corporate media skip anti-corporate protests

23 September 2011 — FAIR

In an action called Occupy Wall Street, thousands of activists took to the streets of Lower Manhattan on September 17. The protests are continuing, with demonstrators camped out on the Financial District’s Liberty Street in support of U.S. democratization and against corporate domination of politics (Adbusters, 9/19/11). But you wouldn’t know much about any of this from the corporate media—outlets that seem much more interested in protests of the Tea Party variety.

Towards a Lengthy War Scenario? NATO To Stay In Libya For A Long Time By Igor Siletsky

23 September, 2011 — Global Research – Voice of Russia

libya-map

map; Libya's colonial boundaries

-[A] lengthy war in Libya can destabilize the situation in neighboring countries, like it was in Afghanistan and Iraq – the more so, because the whole north of Africa is now gripped with revolutions.

NATO has prolonged its mandate for staying in Libya for another 90 days.

This was done without asking any permission from the UN or any other similar organization. It looks like NATO commanders just consider it unnecessary to waste time on asking for the UN’s permission. Why all this “bureaucracy”, if the war, as they claim, is very close to an end? At least, NATO’s official reports say that now, Gaddafi’s supporters are incapable of serious resistance.

Follow the Money: Behind the European Debt Crisis Lie More Bank Bailouts By David McNally

23 September 2011 — The Bullet Socialist Project E-Bulletin No. 547 – www.davidmcnally.org

While I was cursing the inane mainstream commentary on the global economy recently, I was reminded of a pivotal scene in the 1976 movie, All the President’s Men. As two young reporters investigate the burglary of Democratic Party offices in the Watergate Hotel, a disgruntled, high-ranking FBI agent, code-named Deep Throat, advises, “Follow the money. Always follow the money.”
