Dear friends,
Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
Since early September, the United States has given every indication that it could be preparing for a military assault on Venezuela. Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research partnered with ALBA Movimientos, the International Peoples’ Assembly, No Cold War, and the Simón Bolívar Institute to produce red alert no. 20, ‘The Empire’s Dogs Are Barking at Venezuela’, on the potential scenarios and implications of US intervention.

When Baroness Hallett published her original draft terms of reference, children did not even appear. Many of us wrote in to the consultation, and were granted with a 4 week module which has just concluded. As ever, BiologyPhenom has done an amazing job reporting almost every day and with clips which should be a ‘Must watch’.

28 August 2025 — Labor Politics
By Eric Blanc, Wen Zhuang, Emily Lemmerman
The prospect of a democratic socialist who has said billionaires shouldn’t exist becoming the mayor of New York City has the ruling class in a tizzy. But Kathryn Wylde, head of one of the city’s most powerful business lobbies, has a message for her rich friends: don’t worry so much.

Back in 2020, Ofcom, the UK broadcasts regulator, performed a pivotal role in censoring dissenting voices opposed to the dominant covid narrative. Ominously – based on their June 2025 document titled, ‘Consultation: Online Safety – Additional Safety Measures’ – it is clear that the executives in charge of Ofcom are not satisfied with their current powers to curate what we have access to in the media, and are now striving for more control over the population’s listening and viewing habits.

Dear friends,
Greetings from the desk of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
On the last day of October 2025, leaders from the 21 nations of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will meet in the city of Gyeongju in the Republic of Korea (South Korea) for the organisation’s 33rd summit. Since its founding in 1989 in Canberra, Australia, APEC has promoted building a zone of ‘free and open trade’ – a concept outlined by the Bogor Goals, which came out of the summit in Indonesia in 1994.

As predicted, the toxic atmosphere unleashed by far-right mischief makers on social media, extremists on the streets and their appeasement via a Dutch auction between Labour and Tories as to which can ‘reduce numbers’ the fastest and the most, has led to unprecedented levels of racial harassment and attack. In this week’s calendar, among incidents of racist abuse in a mosque and the beating of a 60-year-old Afghan man who suffered a broken foot, we document the horrific attack on an Asian woman in Walsall.

The federal government shutdown is a fight between Trump and democrats, but it is also emblematic of the tenuous nature of the welfare state in the U.S. The duopoly parties are both committed to carrying out austerity policies on behalf of the ruling class.
Tuesday, 28 October 225 — Palestine is still the issue
On The Electronic Intifada livestream last week I reported on the arrest of Dr. Rahmeh Aladwan, a British-Palestinian medical doctor facing repression in the UK a couple of days before our broadcast.
The arrest was a clear case of political interference in the supposedly independent UK medical tribunals and licensing system, and only the latest sign of a wider purge of the National Health Service of solidarity with Palestinians.
Watch the whole segment in the video above.

Gen Z-led uprisings across the Global South point to long-term socioeconomic and environmental crises caused by neoliberalism. Yet they have often been coopted by entrenched social classes. Can their energy be channelled towards progressive ends?

I celebrated my 80th birthday in July and great fun was had by all. However, maintaining this site to the level I prefer has become a major headache for me, due largely to ongoing and extremely frustrating health issues. I have kept this site going, pretty much without a break, since 2002. I have published 30,536 articles over this time as well as continuing to write my own essays. I don’t want to stop publishing relevant material here but I just can’t maintain a regular flow of stories, so expect an erratic output but this is a massive and useful resource that hopefully will be fully accessible for many years to come.

“Like Nazi Germany, Israel teaches its citizens to feel righteous about killing — and like Nazi Germany, it may only change when shattered by external force.”
Author’s Note: This essay traces how both nazi racial supremacy and zionist Jewish supremacy were structured by Eurocentric doctrines of conquest, purity, and civilizational entitlement and how they are ideologically entangled through their inheritance of colonial logics.

While Yemen usually conjures images of conflicts with Israel and the Saudi-led coalition, a new dimension to the complex country and its people has emerged: Yemen’s secret war of spies. MintPress News delves into the largest CIA spy cell ever uncovered in Yemen, revealing a major security operation that apprehended its members and exposed American espionage activities, dramatically altering our understanding of Yemen’s complex battlefield.
