Debunking the rumors about Russia caving in to Israel

3 July 2019 — The Saker

[this analysis was written for the Unz Review]

This Spring saw a sudden increase in the volume of articles in the so-called “alternative media and blogosphere” about Putin “selling out” Syria or Iran to the Israelis and their US patrons, or both. What was particularly interesting about this campaign is that it was not triggered by any kind of event or statement by Putin or any other senior Russian decision-makers. True, Israeli politicians made numerous trips to Russia, but each time they walked away without anything tangible to show for their efforts. As for their Russian counterparts, they limited themselves to vague and well-intentioned statements. Nonetheless, the “Putin sold out to Netanyahu” campaign did not stop.

Climate change, dust bowls, fishery collapse: metabolic rifts of capitalism and the need for socialism

Humankind and the environment are hurtling toward unprecedented ecological crises. Global warming, sea level rise, and weather extremes due to carbon emissions are catastrophic enough, but they will mix and combine with ocean acidification, air and chemical pollution, water shortages, deforestation, fishery collapse, soil erosion, and mass extinction, throwing both nature and society off a cliff into the unknown.

Of deaths, mistreatment and other miseries

The month of July is beginning, a time awaited by children due to the arrival of holidays, a time to play and enjoy themselves with their families. This should have been the destiny of the 8 year old girl Carmen Sofía Speca, a little rush that was just beginning to live. Tragically, Carmen is one of the victims of this month’s 13 cases of femicide reported in the digital media.  There were also two thwarted murder attempts, one of them to a baby just 10 months old. In at least 4 cases, the killers had a history of gender violence or rape. Why are these men, such as a man with 3 accusations of rape, walking the street free?

From the “Destruction” of Chavismo to the Epicentre to the Anti-Imperialist Left By Arnold August

4 July 2019 — Internationalist 360°

Who would have thought that, during the attempted coup d’état in Venezuela on January 23 and its immediate aftermath, Caracas would become, only five months later, the epicentre of the Latin American left? The XXV São Paulo Forum is planned for July 25–28 in the very Caracas that was supposed to be in the hands of the US and its allies. The day of the coup attempt, international hemispheric right-wing reaction – from the north, in Ottawa, through Washington, DC, to Bogotá and southward to Lima and Santiago de Chile – was ready to get the champagne bottles popping.
