It’s not so easy to fire a professor of African American Studies who has forged strong ties with the surround Black community. Philadelphia’s Temple University is finding that out, in the case of Dr. Tony Monteiro. Protesters converged on campus, this week, and their anger was directed as much at “Afro-centrist” Prof. Molefi Asante as at Teresa Soufas, the Dean of Liberal Arts who fired Monteiro. Israeli Forces Kill a Judge in Cold Blood at al-Karamah Border Crossing with Jordan

In a cold-blooded murder, on Monday morning 10 March 2014, Israeli forces stationed at the al-Karamah checkpoint with Jordan killed a judge working in Amman Magistrate’s Court while he was on his way back to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).  Israeli forces claimed that the judge attempted to seize the weapon of an Israeli soldier who in response shot and killed him. Investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) refuted the Israeli claims and emphasized that the judge did not constitute any threat to the lives of the Israeli soldiers.

Netanyahu weapons shipmentIsrael made headlines last week when it intercepted a ship that it claimed was carrying a shipment of Iranian weapons to Gaza. The supposed contents of the ship were put on display yesterday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an event that was dubbed “a public relations spectacle” by the New York Times‘ Isabel Kershner (3/11/14). (Kershner ought to recognize a public relations spectacle when she sees one, since her spouse’s job is creating PR strategies for Israel–FAIR Action Alert, 5/16/12.)
