No More Media Silence on TPP

The proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal has drawn heavy criticism. Over 500 labor, environmental and farm groups oppose granting the White House “fast track” authority to speed the pact through Congress. The deal, still being negotiated in secret, has spawned protests around the world. Even some Democrats are pushing back against the White House.

But there’s one thing that TPP hasn’t generated: news.

Let’s try to change that

UK GMO Science Update Slammed as ‘Unadulterated Propaganda’

14 March 2014 — Sustainable Pulse

No Transparency
At  a “news briefing” yesterday, the authors of the Report presented their findings at the invitation of the Council for Science and Technology (CST) (1).  According to the news briefing, the Council  ”… last year… asked a group of independent scientists to look into the developments in the science of GM crops since the Royal Society report published in 2009.”  However, on the CST web site there is no record of any Council meetings in 2013.  There is no published record of how the report was commissioned, and how its “independent” authors were chosen.  But because the CST is essentially the Prime Minister’s personal science advisory committee, and because he who pays the piper calls the tune, it may reasonably be assumed that the Council’s unwritten brief is to provide appropriate science in support of predetermined political positions — in this case, an unwavering commitment on the part of the Government to GM crops and foods. World Has No Idea How U.S. Decides on Wars By David Swanson

14 March 2014 — WashingtonsBlog

People from Yemen and Pakistan and elsewhere have told me, and have testified in the U.S. Congress, that they have a hard time convincing their neighbors that everyone in the United States doesn’t hate them.  There are buzzing killer robots flying over their houses night and day and every now and then blowing a bunch of people up with a missile with very little rhyme or reason that anyone nearby can decipher.  They don’t know where to go or not go, what to do or not do, to be safe or keep their children safe.  Their children have instinctively taken to crouching and covering their heads just like U.S. children in the 1950s were taught to do as supposed protection from Soviet nuclear weapons.
