David Miranda’s detention and the raid on Britain’s Guardian newspaper By Judy Hyland

24 August 2013 —WSWS

Events of the last week provide chilling confirmation of the police state apparatus built up by successive British governments on the pretext of the “war on terror.” They demonstrate how invocations of “national security” are used to justify anti-democratic conspiracies against working people and intimidate and punish anyone who dares to reveal the truth.

The Unnatural Death of Dr David Kelly: The Illusions of the Illicit Hutton Inquiry – the ‘Forensics’ By Dr. David Halpin

Subversion of Due Process: The Death of Dr. David Kelly

If Albion is perfidious in foreign lands is it not likely its cunning and its lying will be strong suits on the home front? The trappings of Crown, ancient ceremony, and red empire stamp authority and apparent integrity on the British state. These, and much else, are the coinage of a supine and incestuous media and especially of the BBC, the state broadcaster and supreme propagandist. ‘Nation shall speak peace unto nation’ is its most ironic motto. The whole works in terrible concert.

Illegal Invasions, “Rogue States”, Forgotten Victims and a Shaming Plea By Felicity Arbuthnot

31 January, 2013 — Global Research

The usual suspects have embarked on another mass butchery – sorry “training exercise” – in mega-resource-rich Mali, and are meddling, with lethality, in Algeria. The UK, ever keen to kill, has gone from the Prime Minister’s “no boots on the ground” assurances, to “Operation Creep” in barely over a week.

Black Agenda Report 22 February 2012: Need A Black Agenda / Lying Media / Obama Weakens Unions

22 February 2012 — Black Agenda ReportNews, commentary and analysis from the black left

The Need for a Black Agenda

by BAR executive editor Glen Ford
The African American Left’s failure to formulate a Black Agenda has made it “largely irrelevant during the greatest crisis of capitalism since at least the Great Depression, and the worst economic and social crisis for African Americans since the death of Reconstruction.” The default Black Agenda is Obamaism, which is corporatism, and the death of Black politics. “If all that matters is Obama, then there is no need for a Black political agenda – except four more years of Obama.”

20 February 2012Prisoner Support and Human Rights Organization

Ramallah, 19 February 2012Israel’s High Court of Justice has today scheduled a petitions hearing regarding the case of Khader Adnan to take place Thursday, 23 February 2012 at 11:30am. The petition was filed by Khader Adnan’s lawyers on 15 February. The High Court of Justice was provided with a detailed medical report prepared on 14 February by an Israeli-accredited doctor on behalf of Physicians for Human RightsIsrael (PHRIsrael). Despite the elaborate medical report, which confirmed that Khader Adnan “is in immediate danger of death,” and that “a fast in excess of 70 days does not permit survival,” the Israeli High Court appointed the petition session for 23 February with no guarantees that a decision will be made on the same day. By then, Khader Adnan—if alive—will have reached the 69th day of his ongoing hunger strike.

Will rendition of this man land MPs in jail for war crimes?

British ministers could be found guilty of war crimes if the US refuses to hand back a Pakistani citizen held without charge in Afghanistan for seven years.

The government confirmed today that it has complied with a Court of Appeal ruling and written to the US to demand the return of Yunus Rahmatullah to British custody.

Mr Rahmatullah was captured by British forces in Iraq in 2004 and handed to the US, who renditioned him to Bagram airbase in Afghanistan where he has remained ever since.

MEDIA ALERT: ‘RED HERRING’ – Al Gore, The Climate Sceptics And The BBC

On October 10, the BBC‘s Ten O-Clock News led with the story that a High Court Judge had found nine ‘errors’ in Al Gore‘s climate film, ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, which the UK government has been sending to schools around the country. As a result, by way of ‘balance’, the government will now be required to include “guidance notes” with the film. (BBC news online, ‘Gore climate film’s ‘nine errors’,’ October 11, 2007; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7037671.stm)

The case had been brought by Stuart Dimmock, a lorry driver and school governor who says he objects to the film’s “brainwashing” of schoolchildren. Although Dimmock’s lawyers branded the judgement a “landmark victory”, they failed in their attempt to ban the film from secondary schools. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7037671.stm)
