Former Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance has now cleared Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam who were wrongfully convicted of Malcolm’s 1965 murder.

Vance and other government authorities, however, refused to investigate the FBI, NYPD, CIA, and other government agencies for their role in his killing.

Media: To Defeat Transparency, NYPD Turns to Journalist-Turned-Cop-Turned-Journalist-Turned-Cop

21 June 2017 — FAIR

WSJ: A Terrorist's Guide to New York CityConservative media go to bat for secret government surveillance.

The biggest, most resourced police department in the world likes to work in the shadows. You want to question that? You’re probably a terrorist enabler.

Last week, the New York City Council held hearings on proposed legislation calling on the New York Police Department to be more transparent with how they surveil and spy on the public. Police officials, as they often do, proceeded to tell local lawmakers to get lost. Requests for more information and possibly a public comment period on NYPD spying tactics, which have reached sci-fi levels, were called “insane” and met with suggestions that ISIS terrorists would be given a “roadmap” to attacking the city.

NYPD Raids in Harlem: “They want to stop this whole generation”

16 June 2014 — Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us

“I woke up, opened my bedroom door and there was a gun in my face. Nobody knocked on my door. My son was not in the apartment. They told me, ‘Shut the fuck up’ and put my hands up, put handcuffs on me, smashed my face into a wall. They never told me what they were there for… They wouldn’t let my seven-year-old grandson come out of the room, who was in there screaming. They told me they will ‘get to him later.’ They tore my house up….”

24 April 2014 — WSWS

On Tuesday, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) attempted a public relations campaign on the popular microblogging platform, Twitter. @NYPDNews, the Twitter account of the department, asked its followers, “Do you have a photo w/ a member of the NYPD? Tweet us & tag it #myNYPD.”

CCR Says: This is Your Victory: End Stop and Frisk Today

13 August 2013 — Center for Constitutional Rights

[It’s great to know, that every once in awhile, we, that is, we the People, achieve a significant victory over the forces of repression and reaction. And CCR’s legal battle to overturn ‘stop and frisk’ in NYC reminds me that back in 1980, the equivalent law here in the UK was called the “Suss Law” and its use against people of colour by the Met police eventually triggered riots that saw cities burn. The Suss Law was eventually repealed only to be re-instated (conveniently) by the phony ‘war on terror’ and used to stop hundreds of thousands of people, with virtually no ‘terror’ arrests. WB]

Black Agenda Report 1 March 2012: NYPD Looks for Terrorists at Black Girls' School in Newark

1 March 2012 — Black Agenda Report

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford

The NYPD recognizes no jurisdictional boundaries in its religion– and race-based dragnets. Funded partly with federal money intended to curb drugs, Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s secret police imposed hyper-surveillance on Muslims in nearby Newark, New Jersey and other out-of-state localities. “It is as if the police saturated every Italian-American neighborhood, restaurant, business, social club, church, school, and playground in order to find out more about the Mafia.”

NYTIMES Highlights CCR Witness Who was Stopped / Targeted by the NYPD

21 December 2011 — CCR

On Sunday, The New York Times featured a powerful op-ed, Why Is the N.Y.P.D. After Me?, authored by Nicholas K. Peart. Nicholas submitted a declaration in support of our recently filed motion for class certification in Floyd v. the City of New York. In the piece, he shares his experiences being stopped and frisked repeatedly by the New York City Police Department. Nicholas writes,

“For young people in my neighborhood, getting stopped and frisked is a rite of passage. We expect the police to jump us at any moment. We know the rules: don’t run and don’t try to explain, because speaking up for yourself might get you arrested or worse. And we all feel the same way — degraded, harassed, violated and criminalized because we’re black or Latino. Nicholas is not alone. Hundreds of thousands of people are stopped each year by the NYPD.”

Have you been stopped as well? CCR is currently interviewing people who have been stopped by the NYPD. Contact us: stopandfrisk@ccrjustice.org or 347.574.7723 to set up an interview. This collection of stories will appear in an upcoming report that documents the impact of stop-and-frisk on peoples’ lives. Learn more at ccrjustice.org/stopandfrisk.

NYPD blast LRAD sound cannons at OWS — RT

17 November 2011 — NYPD blast LRAD sound cannons at OWS — RT

RT’s New York crew has witnessed NYPD using LRADs, or sound cannons on Occupy Wall Street protesters. Eyewitnesses at the site have tweeted police fired as protesters sang the US national anthem .

NYPD has previously threatened to use LRADs during the dismantling of the Zucotti Park encampment early morning on November 15. However, that time police went no further than flexing their muscles, with the sound cannons not actually used.

But the incident led many to wonder how long police would take to act out their threats. It took them two days.

This is believed to be at least the second time they have been used on peaceful protests in the US.

Long Range Acoustic Devices (LRADs) send harmful, pain inducing tones over longer distances and are rarely deployed for crowd control purposes. This is at least the second time they have been used on peaceful protests.

Video: "I am not moving": Confronting America's Hypocrisy By grtv

12 October 2011 – GRTV

Brilliant short film shows the hypocrisy of Obama and Clinton’s words about the Arab uprisings in contrast to how the American government responds to peaceful protesters at home. Compares the words on freedom and democracy relating to Syria, Egypt, Libya, Iran, and contrasts with treatment by NYPD and Boston police.

Are Democracy Now!’s Libyan Correspondents Feeding Us the State Department and Pentagon Line on Libya?

By BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon
Is the independent media movement’s flagship radio-TV show Democracy Now! Pushing the State Department and Pentagon line on Libya instead of “going where the silence is” and telling the truth without fear or favor? Are its Libyan correspondents embedded with the US backed Libyan rebels to such an extent that they have minimized and failed to follow up persistent reports of ethnic cleansing in Libya or investigate whether alleged “mercenaries” ever existed or Khadaffi’s “massacres” ever took place?

IMF Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s charges: the French believe it’s a plot By Roland Michel Tremblay

19 May 2011 — The Marginal

Le Monde confirmed in a poll conducted by CSA that for 57% of the French population, Strauss-Kahn is the victim of a plot. Reviewing the French Press reveals that most of the mass media in France published articles of main political figures, including political rivals, stating that they do not believe the charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn are genuine. In the meantime the career of the Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and potential future French President, who was favourable to the people instead of global corporations, is over. Unless somehow the belief of his innocence could be turned to his advantage, even if found guilty by forged evidence. A crucial mistake perhaps, the French simply don’t think like Americans, anything is possible. Here is a review of the most substantial articles in the French Press.
