Ever since the UK entered “lockdown”, those pushing for it to end have been labelled “callous” or “selfish” or accused of putting profits before people. Meanwhile millions are unemployed and a global famine is on the horizon. The lockdown will kill more people than the virus, and needs to be ended.

We reproduce a discussion between Thierry Meyssan and a group of students. He explains that the political responses to Covid-19 have no medical purpose. A partially identifiable transnational group seized the opportunity provided by the epidemic to try to impose a profound transformation of European societies, just as it had used the attacks of 11 September 2001 to transform the United States. There is still time to oppose the hierarchisation of the world to come.

This is a government of slogans, where confusion now reigns. As Brexit crashes down the list of important policies and is replaced with public health, priorities towards key workers, education, policing and the economy – all behind tackling the C19 crisis, Boris Johnson is losing his new found base in the North, where casualties are highest outside of London. As the public realise the government is now failing in every aspect of fighting this crisis, trust in government is going the wrong way at a crucial time.

Today we’ve written to the government jointly with two other renter organisations, Living Rent in Scotland and ACORN, a community union that organises renters who live outside of London.
Renters are being forced to choose between paying rent or buying food and other essentials. Many renters are already in debt. Fear of eviction and rent debt is forcing people to go out and work rather than staying home. The government is putting renters in danger and we’re heading for a chaotic rent debt and evictions crisis.
