What Comes After Trump – World War III? By Federico Pieraccini

11 June 2019 — Strategic Culture Foundation

Those who are familiar with my articles would be aware that I am not given to catastrophism or alarmism. But perhaps the time has come to reflect on who will be president after Trump (whether after this or the next term) and what this will mean for relations with Russia and China.

Fully Automated Luxury Communism

11 June 2019 — Novara Media

A different kind of politics for a new kind of society—beyond work, scarcity and capitalism. In Fully Automated Luxury Communism, Aaron Bastani conjures a vision of extraordinary hope, showing how we move to energy abundance, feed a world of 9 billion, overcome work, transcend the limits of biology, and establish meaningful freedom for everyone. Rather than a final destination, such a society merely heralds the real beginning of history. On the day of his book launch he’ll be joining Michael to discuss the key themes of his book. Q&A at the end!

Internet Free Speech All but Dead By Philip Giraldi

11 June 2019 — Global Research

Unelected, unnamed censors are operating across the Internet to suppress “unapproved” content.

The Internet was originally promoted as a completely free and uncensored mechanism for people everywhere to exchange views and communicate, but it has been observed by many users that that is not really true anymore. Both governments and the service providers have developed a taste for controlling the product, with President Barack Obama once considering a “kill switch“ that would turn off the Internet completely in the event of a “national emergency.”

US Secretary of State Pompeo threatens “push-back” to prevent a Corbyn Labour government By Robert Stevens

11 June 2019 — WSWS

In a closed-door discussion last week, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lifted the veil on plans to prevent a Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour government from coming to power in Britain.

In an audio recording of a meeting held last Tuesday with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Pompeo is asked if Corbyn “is elected, would you be willing to work with us to take on actions if life becomes very difficult for Jews in the UK?”

Dossier 17: Venezuela and Hybrid Wars in Latin America:

11 June 2019 — Tricontinental

Screen Shot 2019 06 03 at 2 26 23 PM

Dossier no. 17 reflects on the hybrid war unleashed against Venezuela. We document the repertoire of tactics, but also the motives behind them. We are interested not only in the recent attack on Venezuela, but in the similarities between this attack and others in Latin America over the past decades. This general onslaught in Latin America needs to be understood not in terms of the war against this country or that one, but in terms of the method of domination that shape the current neo-liberal and imperialist offensive in the region.

Tens of Thousands of 5G Telecommunications Satellites. Escalating Tensions in a Contested and Congested Space Environment By Claire Edwards

10 June 2019 —  Global Research

The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 enshrined the principle of outer space being preserved as a common heritage of humankind,1 yet “lacks any provisions that would regulate the methods of the settlement of eventual disputes, which usually appear in law-making treaties, such as the 1959 Antarctic Treaty”.2 Outer space is now an “increasingly congested and contested environment”.3  Delegates at the UN’s First Committee dealing with disarmament and international security determined that “prompt action [is] needed to address the safety and security of the Earth’s orbit, given growing numbers of satellites, the development of sophisticated defence systems and the ever-increasing amount of orbital congestion, which currently [includes] more than 500,000 pieces of debris”.4 “[R]adio frequencies and any associated orbits…are limited natural resources that must be used rationally, efficiently and economically … so that countries … may have equitable access to those orbits and frequencies.”5

Isolated, Surveilled, Expelled: How Ecuador Betrayed Julian Assange

10 June 2019 — Defend Wikileaks

The expulsion of Julian Assange from Ecuador’s embassy in London on 11 April 2019 marked the culmination of President Lenín Moreno’s years-long effort to renege on Ecuador’s commitment to protect the WikiLeaks publisher from the United States’ persecution. By the time he took office on 24 May 2017, Moreno had already begun working on undermining Assange’s protections, a process that Moreno’s predecessor Rafael Correa, who granted Assange asylum in 2012, called “one of the greatest betrayals in Latin American history.”
