Abu Omar Khorasani was taken from Kabul’s Pul-i-Charkhi prison and unceremoniously shot. The first and only person to have been executed since the Taliban gained full control of Afghanistan, Mr. Khorasani was the head of the Islamic State in South Asia until he was arrested by government forces last year. What are its repercussions?

Who “Lost” Afghanistan, America or India?
by Taj Hashmi
Now, who “lost” Afghanistan – America or some other entities – is the question. I believe America had nothing much to lose in Afghanistan, while its Military-Industrial Lobby has been the sole loser. However, meanwhile the Lobby has already made a couple of trillion dollars from the unnecessary war. Some other entities, some of America’s old NATO allies, Britain in particular; and its relatively new “ally”, India under Modi, have been the main losers in Afghanistan.

America’s Afghan Debacle & West’s Collective Bungle
by George Chakko
China could be the new beneficiary wanting to further expand its grab on Afghan minerals in toto. China may tactfully seduce a Taleban-led Afghanistan into SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation where Afghanistan’s neighbours India and Pakistan are members). The other loser after the U.S. will be India that had invested over $ 3 Billion in Afghanistan’s development. But if Dr. Abdallah Abdallah, an India friend, is included in a new Taleban coalition
government, then India may still be able to play a constructive role in Afghanistan’s future.

Stakes in Afghanistan!
by Nilofar Suhrawardy
Speculations resting on numerous analyses are being voiced on what does withdrawal of United States from Afghanistan and take-over by Taliban really indicate? The former aspect is being viewed by most as defeat of the Superpower and the latter as probable return of terrorism to the country spelling distress for most, particularly women. Let us view the ground reality from another angle. How should victory and/or defeat of United States be measured?

Afghanistan: After Action Report
by John Stanton
Arguably the best novel on Afghanistan is the gut wrenching Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam. One of the characters in the book, Marcus, laments that: “Both sides in Homer’s war, when they arrive to collect their dead from the battlefield, weep freely in complete sight of each other. Sick at heart. This is what Marcus wants, the tears of one side fully visible to the other” It seems it’s time for that.

Reflections on Events in Afghanistan
by M K Bhadrakumar
Afghan ambassador to Washington Ms. Adela Raz said that President Ghani and his cronies simply emptied the Afghan Treasury and left with the loot…India’s policymakers couldn’t have been unaware that a cabal was ruling Afghanistan but deliberately chose to ignore it… The Washington Post has exposed that the Pentagon commanders lied and the ‘forever war’ continued… The disconcerting fact is, in India too, a determined lobby advocated the ‘forever war’ against all logic, and Mohib was our man in Kabul, too.
