In November 2017, landmark research found that approximately 120,000 people had died as a direct result of the Conservative party policy of driving austerity in what has since become an era now associated with what some have branded ‘economic murder.’ And even today the number of deaths is calculated to reach 200,000 by the end of this year. This is a national catastrophe and demonstrates the sheer heartlessness of a particular political doctrine and its ultimate measure of failure.

Recently, the Levy Institute, the think-tank centre for post-Keynesian economics (and in particular the theories of Hyman Minsky, the radical Keynesian economist of the 1980s), published a short video that that shows Minsky explaining his theory of crises under capitalism in his own words at an event in Colombia, November 1987. It is a very clear account of his theory of crises based on ‘financial fragility’’.

The Trump administration has given various justification for its assassination of Major General Qassem Soleimani and commander Abu Mahdi al Muhandis. It claimed that there was an ‘imminent threat’ of an incident, even while not knowing what, where or when it would happen, that made the assassination necessary. Trump later said the thread was a planned bombing of four U.S. embassies. His defense secretary denied that.
